Problems playing DVD+R/Ws in Matshita SR-8176 |

| I have a laptop with a Matshita (Panasonic) DVD-ROM drive. It plays DVD-Rs fine. However, it fails to read both DVD+Rs (Memorex-CMC) and DVD+RWs (Ritek) that I put in. These DVD+R/Ws worked fine in both my standalone players (Panasonic and Magnavox) as well as the drive that burnt them (Optorite DD201).
Is there anything I can do to make them play on my laptop. It is a real drag cause I just bought a 50 pack spindle of Memorex 4x DVD+Rs at a dollar each and I was so far very happy with my results. Am I now going to have to switch to DVD-R? I'm not made of money damnit. Can firmware, drivers, programs etc help? Please help. Thanks. (I moved this thread from another forum cause nobody even looked at it.) |

| Alright, well thanks to a DVD+RW compatiblity list, I found out that the Matshita drive does work with DVD+Rs but only with special compatiblity settings. So it tried bitsetting my Optorite DD0201 drive using Nero 5.5, 6, and "DVD Bitsetter". Nero simply didn't have the option while DVD Bitsetter gave me a Windows error every time I tried changing to other settings.
I read on a message board that the Optorite DD0203 doesn't support bitsetting so I imagine the DD0201 doesn't either. Is there anything I can do? Like I said, I already bought a 50 pack spindle of DVD+Rs and I REALLY don't want to switch to DVD-Rs now, especially since I can't return the DVD+Rs. There are loads of people with Optorite drives. How do YOU solve these problems? |

| Well thanks for everyone's replies to my detailed post. Your input was invaluble to my decision. Anyway I just bought a 25 pack of DVD-Rs. |
