| When i try using this as a monitor, i get a black square which covers the right-hand side of the screen (about 1/3 of the screen). I get this when the resolution is set at 1680 x 1050. I tried using my TV remote to move the screen over, and it worked, but the limit didn't allow me to pull it over so that it covered the black square.
Tv specs: 22'' LCD 16:9 aspect Ratio Some help would be fantastic as this is making me very sad face. thanks -beavs

| We need more detail.
What is the make and model of the HDTV and what is the make and model of the video card in your computer? Also what type of connection are you using between the computer and the HDTV? The more detail the better! - John "FulciLives" Coleman

| Thanks for the quick reply.
The television is a NEC NLT-22HDB3 The graphics card is a Nvidia GTX260 Im not sure about the connection. Its not VGA, its something else, an adapter for VGA came with the card. I think the connection is called DVI (digital visual interface) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface#Digital
| guns1inger posted 2008 Sep 12 01:06 | ||||
| Probably DVI-HDMI or straight DVI. You need to set the adapter resolution to whatever your TV's native resolution is - probably 1366 x 768. | ||||
| beavs posted 2008 Sep 12 01:15 | ||||
| Ok ive managed 1600 x 900 @ 75Hz and that has brought some relief. The black square is now on the other side of the screen and is much smaller, about 4 cm's across.
Is there any way i can use 1680 x 1050 resolution? Its the only resolution that doesn't screw up the text or stretch the screen in anyway. Thanks -beavs

| I did a really quick and dirty google search on the NEC NLT-22HDB3 and according to one website the resolution is WXGA (1680 X 1050) but you should double check the manual and if you lost the manual you can probably get a PDF of it at the NEC website.
- John "FulciLives" Coleman *** EDIT *** I didn't see your last post about 1680x1050 as I was busy making this post. Your comments about 1680x1050 are confusing though ... Also here is a link to NEC and there is a download link for the manual in PDF on this page: http://www.nec.com.au/6CD8034E07D8429D8B1B5CCDFE69A7CE.htm

| In the television menu 'WXGA' 'VGA' are greyed out and cannot be selected?
- beavs | ||||
| guns1inger posted 2008 Sep 12 01:23 | ||||
| It is in fact an expensive monitor with a TV tuner thrown in. The native resolution is 1680 x 1050.
I would try connecting with either a standard VGA cable (15 pin d-sub connector) : http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:VGA_connector_%CE%940052.jpg If you don't have a VGA connector then you may need a DVI to HDMI connector : http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:DVI-HDMI-Adapter.jpg You may also have to tell the TV that you are using a computer for input, as it will process the incoming signal differently.
| FulciLives posted 2008 Sep 12 01:24 | ||||
Try using the "PC INPUT" instead of the "HDMI INPUT". This HDTV has both types of inputs and according to the manual (I took a really quick look at it) the "PC INPUT" supports more "video modes" than the "HDMI INPUT". So I am guessing that the "PC INPUT" will give you WXGA functionality. - John "FulciLives" Coleman

| @ guns1inger Please read the 3rd comment, i have stated that i am using a VGA cable with a DVI adapter in the computer end.
@ FulciLives I've always had the imput switched to PC-RGB, WGXA still doesn't come up. Thanks -beavs

| Are you sure you got the settings on the computer/video card "set up" correctly?
Since I don't have the hardware you do I really can't think of much more here other than to "play" with the settings and read the manual to the HDTV and the video card very carefully. - John "FulciLives" Coleman
| beavs posted 2008 Sep 12 01:44 | ||||
| Theres nothing in the video card settings that say anythnig about WXGA.
Could my VGA Cable > VGA Adapter > DVI Connection be the problem?

| Didn't have a chance to look for your particular card model, but judging from the included adapter, it's natively DVI, right?
If so, to get the best signal, you could use a DVI-to-HDMI cable. I use one that I got from Dealextreme.com (this one). It works great, and I've never had a problem with that site. I'll echo Fulci. With things like that, you pretty much need to experiment to find the right settings. You may also have a bad adapter. I bought a brand new card when I had a vga monitor, and the adapter didn't work correctly. I swapped out one at the store the next day and it worked fine.

| You probably need to have a computer monitor on the NVidia DVI-I port 1 to set the menus below. The HDTV goes on DVI-I port 2.
VGA to PC port option: 1. Use the DVI-I to VGA adapter at the NVidia card then a VGA cable to the HDTV PC Port. 2. Turn PC off, then TV on and set TV to PC port input. 3. Boot PC. The HDTV should be detected as a second monitor in display settings. 4. Set the second monitor to 1680x1050 then select advanced. This should bring up the NVidia control panel. 5. ID the second monitor as a VGA "computer monitor". DVI-D to HDMI port option. You will need a DVI-D to HDMI cable. 1. Connect the cable from the NVidia second DVI port to the TV HDMI port. 2. Turn PC off, then TV on and set TV to the HDMI input. 3. Boot PC. The HDTV should be detected as a second monitor in display settings. 4. Set the second monitor to 1920x1080 (or 1280x720) then select advanced. This should bring up the NVidia control panel. 5. ID the second monitor as an HDTV. 6. Experiment with 1920x1080i, 1920x1080p or 1280x720p settings for best picture. The TV will scale to 1680x1050 internally. I can't get much more detailed without the equipment in front of me. I'd expect the VGA option to work best for computer text display since it is 1:1 pixel mapped (not scaled). The HDMI option could be better if the TV accepts 1680x1050 on the HDMI port (see manual).

| I am only using 1 monitor.
I think that the only problem is that i can't set the TV's resolution using WXGA. Does anyone know how i get on? I've looked through the manual and i can't find it.
| guns1inger posted 2008 Sep 13 02:26 | ||||
From the online manual
It does not seem to actually work as a standard VGA input
| beavs posted 2008 Sep 13 02:42 | ||||
| What do you mean? | ||||
| guns1inger posted 2008 Sep 13 02:53 | ||||
| As everyone else has explained, if it was just a standard VGA connection, you would switch your TV to PC input, restart your PC, and set the ersolution to 1680 x 1050 as you would for any standard monitor.
The online manual is saying you switch it to PC-RGB, and feed it an RGB input running at one of the specified television inputs. It then resizes the image to fit. I would try edDV's advice and give a DVI->HDMI interface a go
| edDV posted 2008 Sep 13 05:50 | ||||
That means you need to set the display card to either 1920x1080 or 1280x720. I don't know how you can do this without seeing the menus. Maybe it can be set to default on boot.
| jagabo posted 2008 Sep 13 10:16 | ||||
| Use a DVI cable and set the resolution to 1680x1050 at 60 Hz. Maybe 50 Hz in Oz? | ||||
| edDV posted 2008 Sep 13 11:52 | ||||
You can try 1680x1050p but the manual seems to indicate only video resolutions are accepted over HDMI (e.g. 1920x1080i or 1280x720p)
The PC port seems to allow only WXGA (1366x768, 1360x768,1280x768 or 1024x768). There is no mention of pixel by pixel 1680x1050 support but you can always experiment. ![]()
| jagabo posted 2008 Sep 13 12:08 | ||||
| Still, I'd try 1680x1050 at 60 Hz, not 75 Hz or whatever the OP originally tried. | ||||
| beavs posted 2008 Sep 14 02:22 | ||||
| Please stop referring to the manual, i have already looked over it, WXGA is greyed out in my TV's menu, I can't select it. | ||||
| guns1inger posted 2008 Sep 14 03:52 | ||||
Then your equipment is faulty or you have it connected incorrectly.

| edDV posted 2008 Sep 14 14:08 | ||||
So have you sent video resolutions in VGA or HDMI mode? The problem is probably with the NVidia card settings. The TV wants one of those listed video or WXGA resolutions active before it accepts the signal. The NVidia won't detect the TV unless the TV port is active during boot. You will probably need a second monitor to get this set up.

| But by ignoring the advice he was offered at the start he was able to solve the problem himself by doing exactly what he been told to do. You can see why he is unhappy. All that ignoring made it take far longer to get the problem solved. | ||||

What a fuck nut. At the very least you should thank Supreme2k who suggested the HDMI to DVI cord. You should also thank everyone else for trying to help. I thought something was wrong when you got "annoyed" at us for referring to the manual of the TV ... I mean WTF !!! But saying "thanks for nothing everyone!!!" is just pure horse shit. You fucking asshole :evil: - John "FulciLives" Coleman
