| Hello,
I have a sony laptop with a MATSHITA UJ-832D 1.70 drive. I am currently am experiencing the above error. I have recently started experiencing this error after burning cd's and dvd's successfully for 2 years. Any suggestions? |

| I've seen that happen when burning discs with Nero. It happens when it doesn't like the brand blank media being used. In a few cases like Panasonic, it may be just 5 out of 100. |

| When you burn a disc, the writer burns to a specific area to calibrate. If it has problems burning during this process you get the error you stated.
As noted, this can occur when the burner and media are not compatible. I had this back a few years ago when I got a spindle of CDRs that the burner on my machine at work would simply not write to and gave the Calibration error. Yet, on other identical workstations with identical burners no problem. Other CDRs worked fine for me and burner continued to do so. However, if you get this error using different media, and your post tends to lead me to believe you are getting it with both CD and DVD burning, it could be that there is dirt causing the problem or the laser in your burner is weakening/dying |

| With a laptop burner, the laser lens is usually exposed at the bottom of the drawer and gets dirty easily. I would try cleaning it first. But two years on a laptop burner is a long time if you've burned a lot of discs. If it does turn out to be the burner, you might consider a external DVD burner with a USB interface. It's usually much cheaper than a replacement internal drive and a whole lot easier than replacing a internal drive. Both of my laptops need a complete disassembly to replace the DVD drive, though some laptops are easier. I did it once, but I wouldn't recommend it. And having a tech do it won't be cheap. :( |
