Pleading for guru advice DVD recorder w/digital tuner, hdmi

Returning new Panasonic EZ28 - does all the insane things I have read about - doesn't record, freezes..yuk.
Can not identify any other DVD recorder w/internal digital tuner/hdmi other than this horror. We have over the air antenna, no cable, no satellite. Great TV reception. Is there any other choice for a DVD recorder?
Thanks so much!!!

Philip 3575 and 3576, if you can find it. Good luck.
Runner-up might be Canadian model Pioneer. Again, good luck.

Most DVD recorders in stores now don't even have tuners.
The Panasonic EZ was your best choice, sadly.

Next option is tuner-less recorder and then use a DTV box.

DVD recorders are becoming extinct in North America. The Philips models that lordsmurf recommends may have to be purchased via secondary markets like Ebay with the associated risks of buying electronics that way. At this point consumers can't be picky and you're stuck with getting what's available. It would not surprise me at all if by early 2010 there weren't any DVD recorders available new in North America.

Most North Americans have no interest in archiving videos, so DVD recorders never really caught on here. All most people want to do is record something for viewing later and then delete it, so devices like Tivo are what everyone wants.

removing freedom from consumers only makes media piracy all the more tempting

why can manufacturers not grasp this?
