Playing NTSC on PAL DVDRom?

th3obr0 posted 2009 Feb 09 23:02
I got this DVD from NetFlix, but I guess it's in NTSC format and my DVDRom is for PAL. The DVD worked well on my friends laptop 'cause it was purchased here in the USA. My laptop is not that old. It's a HP DV series bought in 2007.

How do I run the DVD on my laptop? Also how to check if the DVD is PAL or NTSC?

Thanks in advance!

There is no such thing.

PC's & dvd-rom drives are not format specific when it comes to PAL or NTSC.

Now the drive maybe getting region locked because it has been changed more than 5 times is another story.

You could check it with DVD Decrypter to get the frame rate and/or resolution to see if it is PAL or NTSC and also to see what region the disc is.

There are programs in the "TOOLS" section that will allow you to play other "Region" disc's or you can search for a region hacked firmware to reflash your drive and never worry about region lockouts again.

Try DVD43 or AnyDVD to see if that overcomes the region restrictions, otherwise it is time for a firmware upgrade if possible to remove said restrictions for good.
