Pioneer DVR 520H and HDTV

WCM posted 2008 Feb 08 15:18
I have HD service with Directv and an HD receiver. Can I connect
my Pioneer DVR 520H into this setup in a way that I can record programming
in standard def on my Pioneer DVR from the HD receiver??

I have a Samsung OTA receiver connected to my DVR 520H and record down-converted 16x9 programs all the time. I suspect you won't have any problems either - unless the programming is copy protected in some manner.

You'll probably have better results using the S-Video connections. On the down side, you'll lose 5.1 audio.

Like Epicurus8a said, use the s-video output on your cable/sat box to send SD video to the DVD recorder. Use stereo rca for the audio.

I have a DVR-320 and record directly from my Comcast HD box. In fact, recording HD channels (downscaled to SD for the S-Video out) look great! Even better then recording the SD channel of the same program.
