PIONEER-610AV-K region problems

matt2112 posted 2009 Aug 26 10:40
Hi, new to this forum, thought i'd post this to try and see if anyone can help me out, which would be much appreciated! i just bought a pioneer-610av-k which was supposed to be able to play all regions as we have dvd's from different parts of the world etc. when we finally got the player we loaded ina disc and it said it wasn't the correct region(it was region 2 from europe). the box says its region 1, which we all know is usa/canada/puerto rico. the reason we bought this player is to be able to watch all regions, which the website said it would do when we bought. i have looked in the manual and it says nothing about it playing different regions etc. i just went onto the pioneer website again nothing can be found regarding regions. i also did a quick search on the web and others are selling the same dvd and saying it will indeed play all regions! can anyone tell me if it will play all regions? has anyone got one of these and maybe shed some light on it for me? i don't want to send it back as it seems like a really nice dvd player! but our reuirements are for a multi regional player.
thanks

just to clarify the dvd players box says region 1 on it.

Well, you have an issue with the supplier for selling you a region 2 player when it's supposed to be region 1. However, you may be in luck. Look here:

There seems to be a hack for your player. You have to replace the firmware to get it into multi-region mode. I am not in any way responsible for anything that happens through your use or misuse of this firmware. I am simply pointing it out to you. I cannot personally make any guarantees as to what will happen. Use it or not as you wish.

thanks for the reply, the dvd player is region 1 i tried a region 2 dvd from europe in the player. so this firmware, i download it to a dvd sisk then burn it and then press play on my dvd player to load it right? yeah, i looked at others selling the same dvd player and they all say its a multi region player, so abit pissed that it won't play multi region dvds!

Region code issue aside....you DO know that European
DVDs are PAL Format don't you?
Making the player "Region Free" does not automatically mean you
will be able to watch PAL Format DVDs on your NTSC television.
So before you hack...make sure it(the player)can ALSO convert PAL to NTSC "on the fly".

I misunderstood your complaint. Too much information in your original post.

I can't help you with applying the firmware update. There should be directions on the website on how to do it. I'm guessing that other vendors patched the players prior to selling them.

ok. when you say "the website" jman, do you mean pioneers website? like i said it was advertised so it would play all regions thats why i bought it in the first place. the box which it came in says region 1, which got my alarm bells ringing!! tried a region 2 dvd and it said something like "wrong region code error" or something like that.
