PHILIPS DVP642/37: Change Subtitle Positioning on .SRT File? | ||||||||

| So I downloaded an SRT subtitle file for my DIVX video file, but I wanted to know If I could edit the SRT file to do things like move the text lower on the screen, change the text size, text color, etc. Any program to do this? And anyone have any suggestions on things like font sizes, positioning points and other things they can suggest? :?: | ||||||||

| srt doesn't store any such info. it is just subs, it is the subtitle reader that can change that info like vobsub for software players. I don't know if the philips player can do that. | ||||||||

Youre wrong. The only thing with SRT you cant do is set placement of displayed lines. dvp642 supports some extra features, i.e. it does display different colors (if the tag is inserted in the line) but it doesnt others, i.e. it won't display italics (and shows their tag). You cant change subtitle's placement on screen on it either. | ||||||||

I didnt knew about it either until one of the subtitles I have suddenly appeared dark green. This subtitle had all over lots of i.e. "<i>" (for italic) codes and other ones I dont remember them now, which was very annoying throughout the movie, because as I said this player dont handle most of them and displays them as part of the text. However green color fonts for "subtitles by ..." in the end was very cool. Usually I run all subtitles through Subtitle Workshop first - to "clean" them out from any codes as such, and to save them in .srt format because most of them are in various .txt formats for PC players. I assume something like <&color=green> or similar (maybe hex code? <&color=#008000> must have been inserted in the begining of this line, but don't take my word for it, I haven't actually open this subtitle on my PC to look at it from inside ;) If I find it, or if I get another one like this - I'll post it here. Forgive me if Im not going to search through hundreds of discs just to find this one subtitle just to show it to you ;) | ||||||||

That works. :D I just wish they had more detailed info on all the details my damn DVD player supported when it comes to subtitles. :evil: Ill be giving Subtitle Workshop more of a try I guess. :wink: | ||||||||

Yeah, me2. Other thing: I cant open my dvp642 due to warranty and check does it have ESS Vibratto or ESS Vibratto II, but Im puzzled with it since few owners of this player told me they have ESS Vibratto II chips inside, and this chip supports both GMC and Q-Pel... How odd the player doesn't. If youre like me - collecting lots of foreign, often not relesed on dvd movies, and youre getting separate subtitles for them, then when you use Subtitle Workshop make sure you use "set time limits" option, and set it to i.e. max=8000ms and min=2000ms. There are lots of "for PC" subtitle formats with only start time or frame for subtitle, and those will display on your player indefinitly until the next line of subtitles has to be displayed. Very annoying. I guess PC software players have some kind of automatic subtitle timeout setting, but standalone players don't have such feature (at least I haven't found any yet). | ||||||||

| The chip is ESS Vibratto II
Jefferson Ryan opened his 642/78 and shows the chip inside. http://www.ryan.com.br/imagens/dvp642/dvp642k_cpu.jpg Also, I had a QPEL encoded film which wouldn't play. I used the latest Nerovision to export the file to SVCD format. Then I used AutoGK to recode it back to .avi. The new .avi file plays and there is almost no quality loss. I have also used this same process to permanently burn in subtitles. | ||||||||

I added inline color tags to some lines in a SUB file (SRT doesn't seem to support color tags) and it didn't work :( The tags where displayed as text... |
