There isn't even an eject button on it for chrissakes and the buttons are all together and roughly the same size. Oh the horror!

It does suck..yes..You can open the tray by holding the stop button.

:idea: you can always buy a universal remote and there are plenty of shapes and colors, just choose which you want :-)

I've had the DVD615 for over 2 years now, and its remote has the same layout and is 100% compatible with that of the DVP642. I was really surprised that they didn't change the remote. What really ticked me off about the remote is the positioning of the skip forward (or back) to the next chapter buttons being so close to the pause button. When you think you are going to fast forward (or reverse), it is easy to hit the skip to the next chapter button. This is a major nuisance on an ordinary DVD, but is even more annoying with a divx/xvid file that has no chapters and therefore will end the film you were watching and won't save your place.

I'm sure they can re-design the remote ... and then jack the price - Would you like that ? :)

I guess, the thought was that since to take the disk out you have to come close to the player anyway, what's the point in making a special button for Eject? You are there, why not press the Eject button on the front panel? I am sure it didn't cost much to put an extra button on the remote, and this box doesn't look like something that was made intentionally cheap. It's just the fact that the Eject button is really something that doesn't add much convenience. :)

They required the use of a shift button to allow the keys to have multiple task assignments. That was really inconvenient. Really, the DVP642 remote is fairly straight-up. As someone mentioned, the undocumented open button is the stop button held down for several seconds. Regards, Ender
