What gives? I dont remember this issue before. thanks 3.1.2 |

| what type of video files?
flv, mp4, mov? I am on a laptop now with Leopard 10.5.4, Safari 3.12 and Perian 1.1, Flip4Mac 22.0.4.9, and no issues viewing Youtube or Vimeo or Myspace vids.... |

| Safari sucks.
I type this from Firefox in OS X 10.5 Sometimes it does odd things. There's no reason for it to not work, I can watch Youtube just fine in Safari. Safari is Mac's version of IE  |

| The video used to play fine in Safari. I have three friends who has tested on Safari at their houses and it plays fine on Safari there. It plays fine on Firefox in my house, but horrible now on Safari. I don't think it has anything to do with the video. The question is Safari on my computer today. BEfore it was fine. |

| kevs,
did you also upgrade Quicktime at the same time as Safari? Try rolling back QT to 7.4.5, the last stable version. I'm using QT 7.4.5 and Safari 3.1.2, and I am having no issues, either 10.5.4 Leopard (MBP) or OSX 10.4.11 (PMDual1G4). |
| kevs posted 2008 Aug 22 15:08 |
| How do I roll back?
I did not know 7.5 is unstable. this is a known consensus? |

| Thanks Terry, neither of those links work or are blank |
| terryj posted 2008 Aug 24 14:05 |
| link one works from within MacFixit.com.
Sorry you have to be a subscriber to access. here is a brief summary of the issues: QT 7.5 problems and link two is fixed. |

| If FIREFOX works I would just stick with it. Simply put FIREFOX is more a standard these days than just about anything else in the browser world. So as long as FIREFOX works who cares about other browers?

| thanks guys, I think I'll save the $20 and wait till QT gets corrected. I'm so used to Safari and it's interface, Fulci, but I have a post it on my monitor that I have to look at once a month in jams, " try firefox" --
which begs the questions is this a QT issue, being the video is fine with Firefox? |
| terryj posted 2008 Aug 25 09:19 |
| yes, between Safari and Quicktime.
The summary post link explains this. Safari has a strong dependency upon WebKit frameworks, is the major cause of its headaches. Firefox has no such problem, as it relies on Gecko, not Webkit, frameworks. |
| kevs posted 2008 Aug 25 14:34 |
| Wow, Terry , great info. So this is a QT issue. Should the next QT upgrade resolve this and how often do those come out? |
| terryj posted 2008 Aug 26 14:16 |
| When Apple gets off it's butt.
Since they are moving to develop Quicktime X (Ten) for 10.6 right now, I wouldn't hold my breath. They'll probably patch Safari first..... |
| kevs posted 2008 Sep 17 11:13 |
| Just did a QT upgrade, says 7.5.5
the video is synched ok, but takes way, way longer to load than Firefox, and stops in the middle. It's still a disaster. Any news on this situation? thanks |
| terryj posted 2008 Sep 17 16:30 |
| you went ahead and installed that mess, instead of downgrading like suggested to 7.4.5?
:-p |
| kevs posted 2008 Sep 17 18:59 |
| OH, I think we left if on the note that a future upgrade was going to solve it. I must have thought this was a big upgrade. NO rush, thanks, for reminding me Terry. You would think Apple this down by now, no? |
| terryj posted 2008 Sep 18 08:26 |
| If you follow the latest reports this morning, there are security vulnerabilities
in Quicktime 7.5.5 which opens up an exploit in Safari where someone could take over your mac! Apple is more concerned about serving shareholders and being a phone company, then about being where they were 5 to 10 years ago..... Quicktime 7.4.5 is the last stable version of Quicktime. There will probably not be a secure stable version after 7.4.5 until Quicktime X, and even then, I wouldn't hold my breath..... |
| kevs posted 2008 Sep 18 10:10 |
| that link does not lead to any article |
| terryj posted 2008 Sep 18 15:34 |
| try it again, you may be getting the skip ad page.
if so, skip the ad and it goes to the article. in other news, here, on the front page of MacFixit.com is more QT 7.5.5 bs.... |
| kevs posted 2008 Sep 18 20:29 |
| the forum talked about .wmv , but these are .mov files that are playing poorly |
| terryj posted 2008 Sep 19 08:15 |
| kevs.........
the point I'm making is that QT 7.5.5 is a dog. Don't use it. It's crap, and it affects programs that utilize it's frameworks, Safari, FCP, iMovie, iTunes, etc. QT 7.4.5 is the last stable version. Downgrade and get rid of your headaches already! |
| kevs posted 2008 Sep 19 10:08 |
| Ok now I remember, but I think you have to use a $40 software, so I was thinking of waiting, but what is the best/economical way to downgrade?
What up with Apple? I don't get it |
| terryj posted 2008 Sep 19 13:46 |
| no, While you should buy Pacifist, because it will in the long run come in handy,
you can use it's one time try it mode for rolling back this particular update. As for Apple, we've already covered this three to four posts up...... |
| kevs posted 2008 Sep 21 09:45 |
| Terry, thanks, what do I do, in a nutshell once Pacifist is lauched. I just a a menu bar -- have no idea where to proceed. |

| kevs posted 2008 Sep 21 13:48 |
| Thanks Lawn,
well, if someone could put in simple laymans terms who to devolve back to 7.4, I would appreciate it. I can't understand that to be honest. |
| terryj posted 2008 Sep 22 08:51 |
| Kevs, read this in detail:
