| Hi everyone,
I am looking for a free or <$100 dollar program to convert AVCHD files direclty to FLV or other formats. I need a program with native transcoders, and not use a codec-pack that is instlled on the PC. I am currently using Xvid4PSP which does the job but has a few drawbacks: - it misaligns the audio which I have to manually adjust - it is very slow because it goes through a procedure of detecting field order. - there is a problem with audio encoding. I need to playback the AC3 audio always for a second, otherwise there is no audio in the encoded file - I have to set the audio conversion to stereo instead of the default Dolby Pro Logic all the time. Any alternatives? Can Nero do the job? I'm not sure it can encode 'to' FLV. |

| You can try Tmpgenc Xpress. Just tell the app not to install DivX during the setup process.
It'll create an AVCHD MP4, which you only need to rename to FLV if you're showing your videos on a website. Flash doesn't care about file name extensions, it looks inside the file to determine what type it is. Your machine is pretty old for AVCHD processing. If you have an 8 or later series Nvidia video card, TMPGenc XPress will use the video card for faster conversions. |

| Thanks for the answer. I'll look into TMPGenc express.
I do have an 8650 Nvidia card. So this should work. I incorporate videos on a website using Adobe Dreamweaver. This just has a simple function to include flash videos and takes care of the rest of the code. Would this also work with an MP4 file in disguise? I read somewhere I would need a reference to a special SWF player for MP4 files, like to JW player. |
