| For some reason just lately ffmpegx is refusing to convert things to DVD. What appears to be happening is that at the point where ffmpegx says "finished" it freezes, and I'm left with three separate files - an .ac3, a .wav and a .m2v file.
Anyone else experiencing this? Any ideas? Thanks. | ||||||||||

| 1/ Which DVD preset did you use?
2/ Does the .ac3 file have the expected file size? (Extremely small file might point to an audio error, halting the conversion process.) 3/ Is Author as DVD (VIDEO_TS) in the Options tab checked? 4/ Please post the Process Information log (accessible by clicking the blue "i" in the ffmpegX Progress window) to see if there is any specific error message to be found. | ||||||||||

1. Preset used was DVDmpeg2enc (can't use ffmpegx because I need to load subs) 2. AC3 file is 340kb (m2v is 2.32GB, wav is 463.6KB) When I play the AC3 in VLC it only lasts about 3 seconds, and sounds like the entire soundtrack of the film is playing at a million miles a minute 3. Yes, Author as DVD (VIDEO_TS) is checked 4. Can't post the process info log because ffmpegx progress freezes at the end of the conversion. Frustrating. | I'm having the same problem, I end up with a folder that has 5 files in it.
filename.ac3 311.1mb filename.m2v 2.51gb filename.mpg 2.87gb filename.mpg.s.mpg 0kb filename.mpg.xml 4kb I've tried both encoders on the DVD preset and get the same result, I'm using a subtitles .sub file. Same as the OP I get the completion *ping* from ffmpegX then it just hangs, then once the app has quit my mac gives the grey screen of death and tells me I need a restart. Any help would be much appreciated. | ||||||||||

| The mpg.s.mpg file is empty. This is the encoded subtitle stream and it shouldn't be empty. So your .srt file may be corrupt. However, I don't know if that can/should cause the problems you describe; seems a bit much... | ||||||||||

| OK, well I'm using the .sub file from within a .rar that came with the movie. There is however a .srt file outside of the .rar that I'll try...then get back to you. | ||||||||||

| OK, re encoded using the .srt file instead of the .sub and now the mpg.s.mpg file is 2.1gb but I still don't have the VIDEO_TS/AUDIO_TS folder layouts.
Poking around on here I've found out how to hard encode the subtitle file into the .avi file using mencode so I may do that and just encode the resulting .mpg with toast or DVD Studio. The subs don't need to be selectable as its a non-english movie anyway. *EDIT* Scratch that, after it had reached 100% and said it was finished I left it open in the background whilst chatting on IRC then I heard the ping again...et oila it had created the folders I need. So to the OP, just leave it for an extra 10 minutes or so after it says its completed and hopefully it'll sort everything out! | ||||||||||

| Yes, many people make the mistake of thinking that when it says 100%, it is finished, but it is only finished when it says 'finished' (and you hear the bell).
You can always click on the blue i in the Progress Window to see what's going on exactly. | ||||||||||

Strangely the "i" button doesn't seem to do anything for me other than give me the spinning beach ball but I'm just going to leave this one running, last time I force quit the app because it seemed to be utterly frozen but the vob files had only completed 48 minutes of the film and it was extremly jerky. I'll just leave it running this time until it's all back to running smoothly and fingers crossed it'll work for me. | ||||||||||

| 100+% is not unusual with ffmpegX... You may get the spinning beach ball because the Process log will no doubt be very long by now and it may take some time to open it, that's all. Being patient is the way to go. Keeping fingers crossed :) . | ||||||||||

| Although symptoms differ slightly, this topic accurately describes what 's missing. Missing still, I should add, after over 24 hours since both Progress Information and Activity Monitor stopped indicating anything significant going on. Details are:
