Newbie using DVDfab

Regor21 posted 2009 Nov 09 07:04
I just started using DVDfab to back up my DVD collection. I am using the free program as I don't need all the features in the full program. I switched from DVDcrypter and DVDstrink when they stopped handling new movies.

I have a couple of question:

1) When I decrypt a movie the program says "Now trying DVD to DVD" and the about screen says that this option will expire on Nov. 26, 2009. I thought that the HD decryption option didn't expire. Why am I getting this message?

2) I did decrypt some DVD's to ISO files. Is this option also part of the free program?

I am just decrypting Movie Only as shown in one of the guides here on Videohelp.

A:
2.Yes as long as you have ImgBurn installed and is selected in DVD->Write.
What I did about the expiration is set the Windows date to 12/1(or 30 days from now) and opened DVDFab then checked the box in the lower left, it goes straight to the free decrypter from now on.

Thanks guys:

But what I really want to know is:

What features are included in the free portion of DVDFab?

for example: Can I still save the ripped movie as a ISO?

Will it automatic compress or do I have to use DVDStrink?

Will the program start up in free mode once the 30 trial is over?

Am I asking really dumb questions?

Free portion rips the files to your drive, no image, no shrink, nothing.
Just the files.

Runs free mode with nag to buy, after 30 days.

Thanks Lordsmurf.

That answers my questions.

A bit more work after 30 days, but no more that using DVDcrypt an DVDstrink.

freebird73717 :

So exactly how do you select the HD Decrypter free option? Nothing I've tried works with version 6.125 or 6.202beta. I always get DVDFab "DVD to DVD", Trial User, No Enabled, Expired. It may or may not rip a movie, sometimes just rips 1 movie then says you have to pay them some money...

That doesn't work for me. When I try to rip a movie afterwards, I get this message:
:
To open this DVD disc, you need buy or renew DVDFab "DVD to DVD", or you can
wait for a new version of DVDFab HD Decrypter. (OK)

I'm totally baffled. Nothing I try works right with Fab anymore. If I reinstall it clean, it will rip one (1) movie, but no more, returning the above message. Then I have to uninstall it, clean the registry, etc, then reinstall it if I want to rip another movie. That makes it pretty difficult to use...
