Does the burner show up in 'My Computer' and otherwise work properly? What version of Nero and what OS are you using? Assuming XP. Does ImgBurn detect the burner?

If so, I would uninstall Nero, then re-install and see if that fixes it. You might also run Nero Clean before re-installing. http://www.nero.com/enu/downloads.html Go to the version you are using, then 'Tools & Utilities' for the proper clean program. It may have been something you installed after Nero, but a re-install usually works if the problem is with Nero.

EDIT: And I just noticed this is in the wrong forum. Moving you to DVD & Blu-ray Writers. :)

Have nero 5 and have unistalled several times . Will goto d/l site and try this.
Let you know :>(

Nero 5 is very old and may have problems with newer burners, especially if you updated your OS. I'm surprised it worked before with your burner. I had to upgrade some time ago when I got a newer burner, as Nero 5 wouldn't recognize it. And I liked Nero 5. :(

The newer Nero is a bloated, expensive piece of software if you just want to burn a disc, IMO. I went to ImgBurn and took Nero off my systems. I use other tools in it's place. But try the Nero clean tool. Nero doesn't uninstall cleanly and needs that program if you want to re-install.

Is that Optiarc drive a NEC model earlier than 7200, and is it a problem with -R media? If so, it may have acquired the common -R read proflem detailed at http://club.cdfreaks.com/f86/nec-optiarc-dvd-r-reading-problems-209168/.

Go to
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=nero+6+oem+suite+-+free+ ... gle+Search to find Nero 6 from various sources for under $10. I've used Nero 6 for 5 to 6 years with zero problems and have avoided newer versions due to problems I've seen posted plus the bloat factor for newer Nero versions.

This happens all the time with Nero. The quickest solution is to uninstall and reinstall.

This has never happened to me with Nero 6 with the 1 exception being only with a NEC 3520 drive that has the -R read problem affliction referred to in my first 6/14 post here. Even reinstalling Nero doesn't fix that problem, or even reinstalling Windows doesn't fix that problem either which is no fault of Nero. I've read good things about IMGBurn too, but I don't know if it fixes the NEC -R read problem because I've not used IMGBurn.

Edit: The -R read problem occurs only for burned discs, and that's likely not the problem if the drive isn't seen at all by Nero which I just realized was the problem. Therefore I'd suggest to first make sure an 80 wire IDE cable is used, and try switching IDE cables to determine if it's a bad cable. You might also try uninstalling the drive from Device Manager and reboot to have Windows reinstall the drive, i.e. if it's seen in Device Manager.

Did what you sugested. Aparently " Cleaning" system did the job.. Do have Nero 6 and AM using Img Tool Burn with ease now. Thanks again for the help.
:D

Good deal. :D ImgBurn is a great option if you just need to burn a disc. Nero doesn't uninstall very well and the 'clean' tool is really a requirement if you are re-installing or updating the program. Nero 6 is decent, I have used it. I still miss the simplicity of Nero 5, though. :(
