I have a Sony DVD player and an InFocus video projector and they are both supposed to be capable of operating in progressive scan mode but they work together only in interlaced mode. Is the mode of operation of this equipment dependent on the way the VOB files were encoded or compiled? If not, what might be the reason why the equipment won't go into progressive mode please?

As long as your player plays the DVD, encoding doesnt make a difference to the progressive scanning.I play VCD, SVCD, DVD and all are displayed in progressive. I Have A Dennon 2200 with a Infocus X1 connected with the VESA Adaptor (which adapts component from DVD to computer 15pin at the projector). I know that the X1 only accepts progressive signal through the computer input with this adaptor. Not sure if this helps you or not :)

Thanks for this, yes it's helpful. Would you say the improvement when watching progressive via VESA compared with component/interlace is significant? Or is it barely noticeable? And did you make up the component/VESA adapter yourself or find it off-the-shelf someplace? Thanks...

I'd say it would be better (I've always had it connected this way) because the DVD player can convert the picture to progressive straight from the digital source and most good DVD players can do a better job of it than the projector will. My Denon does a number of operations pixel-by-pixel to increase the quality of the DVD picture and movement (I wouldnt want the projector ruining all this by de-interlacing the picture. Also your projector can concentrate soley on scaling the image rather than both operations. I got the VESA Adaptor from where i baught the projector. You must use the "component video" output/input of the equipment to display progressive scan. If you're using the s-video or composite video connections it won't display progressive scan.
