Multi-National Competition Entry

daamon posted 2005 Oct 18 18:24
Hi All,

I'd desperately love to enter into the VideoHelp Short Film Competition - not coz I think I'm gonna win anything, but more for the fun of doing it and quite possibly the opportunity to learn.

However, I know my limitations and so I'm considering the following: wouldn't it be great if a bunch of people from this site - possibly from around the globe - got together to chip in their skills to the various steps of making a movie and collaborated on the whole project?

* I'm crap at coming up with initial or new ideas - so I'm stuck for a plot or storyline.

* I'm absolutely crap at drawing - so storyboarding would be an indecipherable mess, even to me...

* I've no experience, and probably insufficient imagination, when it comes to directing - so my shots would end up standard and uninteresting.

* I do have acces to two DV cams: a Canon XM2 and a 1-CCD Sony, both with reasonable tripods.

* I do have Premiere Pro 1.5 and reasonable experience of using it.

* I do have After Effects 6.5 but not gotten around to learning it yet.

* I do have a decently spec'd PC and a broadband connection to receive clips / upload the end product etc.

* I'm crap at music, and wouldn't know how to add mood and depth to the footage by either new music, or knowing where to get suitable free music (including audio effects) from.

Now, if people are up for it we're gonna have to start soon - there's not really that long to the deadline. I've probably missed other important aspects out too, like how to source "actors" (friends) etc.

Naturally - Any winnings would be shared. But that's getting a little ahead of ourselves right now...

Any takers? Thoughts?

Maybe if they start posting links to some of these entries, it might give others ideas for their own projects.

I too, only entered just for fun. I actually ended up using 3-year old camcorder fotage for my project, but it was extensively edited to fit the theme. For the background music, I chose one of Bill Cushman's Royalty Free Piano Compositions. I used a few sound effects here and there, but not too much.
