mpeg2enc issue with OSX 10.5 or source file
ca1amity posted 2007 Nov 18 01:08
Hey,

I had no issue with ffmpegX on my old system running OS X 10.4, I bought a new macbook with 10.5 and installed ffmpeg and the necessary binary packages.
But now, whenever I've gone to convert a file to DVD using mpeg2enc my conversions instantly quit out.

The salient bit of the logfile, that I've seen addressed in other threads is its announcement that

:
/bin/sh: line 1: /Library/Application Support/ffmpegX/mpeg2enc: Malformed Mach-o file

No matter how many times I re-download and re-install the mpeg2enc component or try to completely remove the ffmpegX application and the /lib/A S/ffmpegX/ folder itself and start fresh, the issue remains

Luckily I was able to go to my old system and copy over the mpeg2enc file that is created in /lib/A S/ffmpegX/ by the binary install process. Now that I have moved THAT file into the app support folder on the new system, ffmpegX behaves properly

Could this be some kind of issue with OS X 10.5? The file was downloaded with Safari browser v 3.0.4. Or possibly a problem with the copy of the file hosted on your server?

I've solved the problem for now, but that old system is gone... If i need to reinstall in the future, I cant macgyver over the file like i did this time

Any help is appreciated

Firstly, Thankyou for your post. Saved me quite some time.

You are right on the money. I had no end of troubles, but when I downloaded with wget, it worked flawlessly.

My advice, try Firefox

I'm having this exact problem with the mpeg2enc binary. Keeps saying it's "malformed." I tried downloading it with Safari, Firefox, and wget, but it still fails with "malformed" error. What the hell is going on?

Alternatively, try this zipped copy, as .zip files cause less confusion.

Case,

Thanks, that zipped copy worked.
