| Is there any way to connect a Motorola DCT6214 pvr to an DVD recorder via firewire...??? Has anyone done this...???
I've read an how to on connecting the Motorola to a PC via firewire and I know how to connect a DVD recorder via composite or s-video... But I'm curious if it can be done via firewire... Both my Liteon 5005 recorder and Motorola 6214 pvr have firewire ports... According to the Motorola's setup firewire is enabled and is using firmware 10.10.... Any thoughts...???? Cheers Kenmo

| I know I needed drivers for my XP box when I did this, so I would guess that the DVD Recorder wouldn't work. | ||||

| I don't believe "bulldog" in those posts linked above. A DVD recorder's Firewire input is for DV video only. It doesn't accept the MPEG TS streams that are exported from the Motorola box via Firewire. The Motorola's Firewire link does work with JVC D-VHS recorders, which in turn can export the captured video via S-video to a DVD recorder. | ||||

| This person claims MythTV supports recording to a PC via firewire... He also claims the Motorola outputs raw mpegII via firewire...

| Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but new software has made Windows Media Center capable of using a Motorola STB as a tuner with Windows Vista and upcoming Windows 7.
Take a look: FireSTBPlugin The original development can be found here.

I thought of giving the Firewire -> DVDR route a try. Connected the Motorola 6416 firewire OUT to both, a LiteOn 5005 and Pio 650 Firewire DV IN from the left and right port. Didn't work with either DVDR. Even did a 'Cold Boot' on the Motorola box to download new software into the terminal with the Firwire plugged in, and a new initialization from the cableco. Although the Motorola 6416 Firewire port is enabled (as per Dignostic Menu), whatever digital signal is sent is not recognized by either DVDR. If someone was ever able to get this going, please report the procedure used. |
