I dont think the 8310 is a dinosaur, yes it may be monochrome, but it still works great, still a neat little phone. | ||

| Nokia 3595 ? And beat to hell, I have got to say that this is the toughest phone that I have ever had as far as taking abuse. I have had other phones die from falling off of the truck seat onto the floorboard. I hate to see this one go, but I have its replacement out in the truck, and when I can swing by a service center to transfer my contacts it will go in the drawer with the other beat and worn out Phones.
I really have to get my act together and start looking at a pocket PC (Maybe a ruggedized military version) Any suggestions? | ||

| Currently using an ETEN M600 Pocket PC Phone - definitely the best purchase I've made in a long time.
Previously using a Nokia 6230i. My older Nokia 8310 was probably the best mobile phone I ever had (as a plain old mobile) - small, sturdy, good reception, 2 week standby time. Regards. | ||

| I have the baseline Samsung flip phone that Sprint gives for free and its the only cell phone I've owned that doesn't have odd behavior or issues after 6 months.
From now on I keep it simple on my cell phones. | ||

| I have one of the last of the analog bag phones from my employer. It's a 3 watt and the newer digitals are all in the milliwatt range. :( We have till next year, then it will cease functioning. I'm not looking forward to the smaller phones. I know the coverage will suck, as we have limited towers and a lot of terrain in between. Oh, well. It was good while it lasted. :)
None of the digitals will do higher power, at least without a $300US amplifier. I guess we have to hope for more towers but the local environmentalists are fighting this every way they can. :( It sucks, as I need emergency communications at times in my job. | ||

| I know. The bag phones were great. I looked into high power digital phones and they apparently don't exist. Only the costly amplifiers are an option for the rural areas. I use an external mobile antenna and I still have quite a few areas when there is no contact. Sometimes that's good, as people don't bother me as much. :) But in a disaster, I have to fall back on my VHF radio and it only works when I can hit the repeater. I have to drive 10 miles or better to get a decent signal with it.
I'm assuming that cell towers will be added in the future, but 500MW cell phones are useless to me at present. Oh, well, a sign of the times. :) | ||

| My main phone is a broadband phone through Packet8. But, in the rare cases when power failure or ISP failure leave me phoneless, I keep a backup TracFone - a Nokia 1100. I usuallly have no use for cellphones, preferring privacy when I drive or am otherwise out on the town. But, there are cases when it comes in handy. Besides using it as a backup, I use it in an emergency.
This morning was a good example. My kid has had a high fever for the last few days and decided to "tough it out." And he toughed it out long enough for his bronchitis to turn into pneumonia. He passed out at his mom's house, she called me, and we all took off to the hospital. They had him on an IV for about an hour just to rehydrate him. And the doctor made a few snide remarks about trying to "tough out" bronchitis. My kid probably didn't appreciate them but I'm glad he said what he did. Not because I'm a wise all-seeing adult, either. A few years ago, I tried to "tough out" bronchitis and it turned into pneumonia, too. I've never tried it since then. Anyhoo, I used the phone a few times today. And though I almost never use it, I keep it tucked away in a jacket pocket just in case. | ||

It not much featured, but its awesome designed. i`m not a person who like to shoot photos on mobile, since i`m a photographer. =) and i`m interested in mobile as a voice comunicator, nothing more.  |
