MKV and mediainfo

stiltman posted 2009 Sep 14 00:30
I'm starting to dable with H.264 in a MKV wrapper, but when I right click and open with media info it says unsupported

I've been doing this for ever with just about any codec and wrapper, but it seems funny it can't do this.

Most if not all my video plays via VLC
My encoding is done via Handbrake or FUW

I'm missing something?

To generalized? Need specifec versions of each app, I'm on my laptop and not my encoder....too lazy to walk up stairs :)

The MKV files I convert from Blu-ray with RipBot show up fine in MediaInfo. Gspot remains blank, though.

I have no issues with mediainfo and mkv files.

Sorry guys, I meant Gspot, not media info :doh!: <-- not a tag but it should be one

I like Gspot because it actually scans the file, and also reports problems (i.e. bad chuncks)
Media Info just seems to scan the header info. It might have a scan option, but I don't use it enought to remember. However, it looks like I'll be using media info more now that I've decided to join the new age by doing MKVs

Edit:
Corrected my DOH!

We do have  It's one of the alternate smilies. :) I like the info from Gspot also, but it doesn't work with some formats. Don't think it works with Real either. :(

corrected my :doh!: with :doh :

So does mediainfo scan the whole file, or just the header? Too me it seems to report the info too fast for it to be actually scanning the whole file

Only the header, unfortunately.
