Wow. I'm glad I clicked on this topic link to find this out :)
(I hope this is posted somewhere on the main page, cause I didn't see it)
( edit: I stand corrected.. its there  )

At least, now I have time to D/L the files and work out my viewing issues.

(unfortunately, my current install of XviD is not allowing me to
view the videos.. so i'm not sure what to do. I guess I'll have
to see if I can D/L them at work -- I don't know if I have XviD
on my work pc though) :paranoid:

The public polls for rating the entrants for the Videohelp Short Film Competition 2005 will finish on January 28, 2006. At that time, all prize winners and awards will be announced.

We were initially going to announce the awards on January 15, 2005 but "real world" commitments on my part lead to some delays. On consideration, it has been decided that it would be better to announce the awards altogether so not to influence the "Member's Choice" award.

http://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=290070

So, if you haven't already downloaded the films and voted, you have until January 28 to make your choice!

Thanks to everyone for their participation.

Regards.

4 Days to go. :) If you have not voted, please do so. This may be your last chance to view the films.

ozymango posted 2006 Jan 24 12:08
Three days to go and it appears that "The Cunning Plan" is edging out "Wasp" (my favorite!) for the fan winner so far. But it's not over 'til it's over!

And if you haven't watched and/or voted for all these movies yet, don't let time run out on ya! There's good stuff you're missing! These movies deserve more than forty viewers! :?

Also am I correct in assuming that the highest-rated film (so far!) is evidence of an abundance of young, heterosexual male videohelp members? :P

vhelp posted 2006 Jan 25 22:41
This is just a preliminary or preface to my upcomming review and
juding results to come, and my thoughts so far..

I just wanted to say, that I am in the reviewing/judging stages
finally. I've spent the last couple of days (after resolving my
XviD viewing issues) D/L'ing, and Viewing the Short Film entries.

For a person new to this forum, or who could care less about
anything with potential for Nastalgicness or forum-spirit, etc..
they will probably look at this whole contest as a failure or
what have you. But, that is not the case. (I'm trying to make
a point, but am having great dificulty at it) Anyways.

I take great pride at this whole event. Sorry. I can't quite
put in words, what my heart and inner compasion is fighting to
release the energy that has been flowing since the beginning of
this competition.

And, my thoughts and feelings are very strong - strong for you all
that entered into this remembered always, event. It could very well
be an one and only (last) event of a lifetime.. a treasure.

I can't say that I regret not entering, even though I have the
necessary equipment to enter in a short film. This is only because
I have true reasons why I did not. So, there is no guilt in me.

But still.., there is an emptyness inside me that wishes I *did enter*

I *will* say this.. none of these Short Films are failures. With the
right attitude,

Since then, and up till now, I have been conjuring (drafting) up some
ideas to consider with the equipment (and imagination) I have within
my reach. And, as a coinsidence, in one of the Short Film's..
"The Cunning Plan", there was a scene where the guy was blue-printing up a
plan to send off an letter (I think that's how it went) anyways..
in a way, that is how I have been planning an attempted plot to do a
Short Film :)

fwiw.., I think I have concluded with a judging weight to use in my
tallying up numbers for the final votes.

I have several more left to go, to look at, before I finish up. I
hope before Friday.

I warn you (those that don't feel like being a part of this great event)
don't be left out. You'll regret it, mark my words.. you will.
(It will eat you up inside, for not being a part, in some way)

 D/L those Short Films, and be a MEMORIABLE part of this great event :!:

Yep, hurry up :)

lordsmurf posted 2006 Jan 27 10:27
So, does the time end at midnight GMT, at the end of the 28th? Is that it?

offline posted 2006 Jan 27 10:40
In just a few hours. Before 00:01 GMT 1-29-06

ozymango posted 2006 Jan 27 10:41
Also do you plan to leave these movies up after the contest for any length of time? Or just the winners, for X number of days? I've downloaded 'em all but was wondering if people should be told to make sure to get their copies now or not.

lordsmurf posted 2006 Jan 27 10:45
I'm a major procrastinator during the week. I need the weekend. I want to dump the time into one of those time calculators and see when it ends.....

.......and........

It looks like I have plenty of time tomorrow afternoon to do this. :)

It's only 4pm GMT on the 27th.

I don't know. To be safe, people might want to get their favorites sooner rather than later.

mats.hogberg posted 2006 Jan 27 11:34
I had to burn Mr Slug vs Mr Salt on DVD for my daughter - it's her absolute favourite (she watched 'em all), and she wanted to have it for keeps. I'm keeping all too. A treasure, it is!

I can see it now, a collection of "Mr. Slug Vs." books and movies for children! :D

* Mr. Slug VS. Mr. Cat
* Mr. Slug VS. Mr. Pruning Shears
* Mr. Slug VS. Mr. DDT

Lumis, this could be the start of something big!!! :D

Although Mats didn't mention how old his daughter was ... I mean, she could be 45 for all I know ... :P ...

mats.hogberg posted 2006 Jan 27 11:58
Close! :-) She's 14, so the competition for her attention will be every kind of reality show there is! (and The Simpsons, Nanny et c.)

Excuse me here..

But, I'm lost when it comes to finding exact time, USA vs. International
etc. I'm lost here.

I'm not finished with my voting just yet.. As I type this out, it is
now: Fri Jan 27, 2006 - 9:10PM - New York, USA time.

Question:
How much time do I have left ?

Thanks,
-vhelp 3798

Bodyslide posted 2006 Jan 27 21:14
New york is 5 hours behind London time(GMT). So right now 20:12 est is 3:12 am on 1/28/06. The contest will end in the US on 1/28/06 at 7.00 pm. Which is 00:00 GMT on 1/29/06 If my Time Math is correct...

:D :D :D Confused now I am :) :) :)

lordsmurf posted 2006 Jan 27 21:29
That's correct.

EST has until 7pm Saturday evening.
CST has until 6pm Saturday evening.
MST has until 5pm Saturday afternoon.
PST has until 4pm Saturday afternoon.

HI and AK, you're on your own.

vhelp posted 2006 Jan 28 01:00
I'm still confused, but I'll make the best of it. In the mean time..

Good. I pretty much have everything finished. I just have one last
thing to do.. add up the scores for each short film and conclude with
my vote (and review) of each short film.

I'll save that for tomorrow's finalie, ..should be late morning or
early afternoon, and my vote will be in.

Well, it's Sat Jan 28, 1:58 A.M. here in New York, USA time right now.

Thanks,

Kudos to all those who have contributed to this event. For putting in effort, time and energy to showcase their creativity, imagination, skills and knowledge. I think everyone here is a winner in a sense and should get the cake ! At least full marks shoud be given for "effort".

But since its a competition someone has to win. Hope to see more interesting stuff in future. Maybe one with only animation.

Cheers to all participants !
