check that the region code of the drive is set to your area. drive/properties/hardware(drive)/properities/dvd region.

Cheesie posted 2008 May 28 08:24
Yeah, I have checked that before. It is the correct region.

What actual error do you get when you insert a movie DVD? What software is giving you the error? Can you view/browse the DVD contents within Windows Explorer or My Computer?

Cheesie posted 2008 May 28 10:02
I mainly want to rip and burn DVD's and view DVD's, which I have been able to view before. I don't actually get errors when I put in a movie DVD, but most of the time, the DVD doesn't even load, meaning it doesn't even show in 'MyComputer' under the DVD drive.
The errors I get are when I try to rip the movie for burning.
This is my problem with ripping, which I think may have something to do with the drive. Below is about the ripping problems I have....
__________________________________________________________
I have been burning and ripping DVD's using my "LG GSA-H55N" drive.

For the first few months of this year it has been burning perfectly with
DVD43, DVD Shrink, Nero Express, but in the last few months it doesn't
work with anything. I get heaps of errors.

I have tried DVD Decrypter, AnyDVD etc, but I always get errors.
I have mixed software I use and every time I get errors.
I have uninstall and reinstalled various softwares a number of time.

Some error messages I get are...

"Invalid DVD navigation structure"
"I/O"
"Pure virtual function call'"
"Data error (cyclic redundancy check)"

My computer froze for a while and I got it fixed,
then got it back and it worked perfectly for a little while,
then suddenly stopped working and the errors came.

I have tried heaps of google searches and read forums and
tried to find a patch, but I don't understand anything I have found.

The drive doesn't seem to load protected DVD's and
when it does it takes a long time.

Also I am unemployed, so I can't buy anything unless I can be 100%
sure that it works and it doesn't cost much. So, I am relying on 100%
freeware.

I have updated the drive, successfully, from 1.02 to 1.05
and it still doesn't work.

So can anyone help me with a patch?

Does it need something to do with ASPI or RPC,
these came up in error messages...
and if so can anyone provide me with a link for Freeware?

I am getting really annoyed and losing my patience.

I am running Vista, so can anybody help me, please.

Your vista is crapped, and the dvds are copy protected.

Try in safe mode.

I am still unable to continually burn DVD's. I am able to burn the occasional one, but at first the DVD doesn't load at all.
Sometimes the DVD loads ok, but then half way through burning it just stops. None of my DVD's show up on "My Computer".
Protections are not the the problem because I have AnyDVD.
The main problem is that professionally made DVD's don't show up,
but DVD-R/RW, CD-R/RW and professionally made music CD's do work.
Please can anyone help me - I am really frustrated about it.

As _chef_ said, probably your Vista is rotten.
Try a registry cleaning, or a fresh re-install.
But if you have already done it,
then the problem is in the DVD-drive itself.

Cheesie posted 2008 Aug 02 10:37
I don't think it's Vista. I think it may be the drive.
It's still under warranty, but I hate to leave it at the computer
place for like a week.

What do you mean a re-install? How would I do that?

budz posted 2008 Aug 02 12:09
reinstall your operating system, "VISTA". or buy a new dvd burner which is cheap these days. buy a PIONEER 115 or 116 dvd burner.

I bought a LG blu Ray dvd burner last year, and I had to send it for repair 3 times so far. LG's equality is just not there. Get a pioneer 115 which I burn over 1000 pcs already.
Amazon is selling it for 26 dollars.

As I am unemployed I can't buy another DVD drive.
I have tried it on Safe Mode and it still doesn't load.
I have cleaned the registry etc and it still doesn't load.
What's very weird is that I can load burnt DVD's, bought music CD's
CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R and DVD-RW, just not
protected bought ones.
Also it's weird that very rarely one just loads.
Any ideas?
