Just updated to IE8 now,Musicmatch jukebox no longer works. Free Alternate

So I just updated to IE8 and found out that MMJB no longer works with IE8, I can't even reinstall it, because it just freezes. So I'm in need of a good free alternative that will all me to make playlist. Looking for programs other than iTunes & Winamp.

Thanks for any reommendations you can send my way

Try Gom media player

Edit - Sorry never thought about Ipod compatability, still a good player though.

Have a look at The KMPlayer

http://kmplayer.en.softonic.com/

I don't use playlists personally, so didn't know if it did them but it took me all of about 5 seconds to find it and start using the built-in playlist editor

It also plays virtually any video and audio file without being forced to install ANY codec packages or extra software ... oh and its 110% free

I don't touch over-bloated, and slow to do anything WMP, plus I use FireFox 3.xx as its a hell of a lot faster than IE 6.xx or 7.xx and along with AdBlock Plus and AdBlock Plus Element Hider add-ons 99% of adverts and pop-ups are blocked so speeding things up again

An example is my girlfriend waiting anywhere from 5-30 seconds just to check her web based email using IE 7.xx as its so slow to access it, with FireFox she can have access to her email account in 2-3 seconds

You could try Songbird (free based off of Firefox), or Media Monkey (free and paid versions). I like Songbird and it's improving with each release, but right now Media Monkey is the most similar to iTunes in functionality without all the annoyances.

I use WMP 11 but you might read these comments about MMJB:

There seem to be a number of things (not just IE8) that can stop MMJB from working. Unfortunately, MMJB was very good, and useful for many more things than just the playlist features. I would be very reluctant to give it up, even though I have already had to completely scrub if off a couple systems (meaning the Registry keys, also) and reinstall it . . . which is far from being a slam dunk as to whether that is going to work. The name I hear most often suggested as a latter day replacement is Media Monkey, which I haven't tried yet.

Yahoo, you turkeys really blew it ! (Doesn't it always seem that if something is really good, they just can't let it be ?)

The link from MovieGeek (page 2 of this, in particular) looks like it will be quite helpful. (I did not previously have the info on differences between MMJB versions, or how to disable the update nag screen.) Someone in that thread suggested that versions 6 - 8 might still be viable ? I had v. 9 installed in W2K, but it refused to install into XP, for some reason. Most likely, I should have tried compatibility mode with that. The good news is that if you do manage to reinstall MMJB, your data about what you've done before seems to survive.

If you didn't completely uninstall yet, try this..!

http://forums.techguy.org/multimedia/773806-success-musicmatch-ju ... 7-5-a.html

If you did uninstall then you need to remove ie7/8, install mmjb 7 or higher

http://www.oldapps.com/musicmatch.php

then reinstall ie7/8

I installed IE7 and then IE8 and discovered that my copy of MMJB 7.5 stopped working. Did a google search and found this at the Microsoft Newsgroups...

http://rapidshare.com/files/171585195/MusicMatch_7___Internet_Explorer_7_Fix.zip

Copied the contents to the MMJB directory and now MMJB works again.

wulf109 posted 2009 Aug 13 10:52
Thanks Darrells - I used the rapidshare link and it allowed me get MMJB working after un-installing IE8.

DarrellS posted 2009 Aug 13 11:45
You don't need to uninstall IE8 to get it to work. Just install all the DLLs in the Fix folder into the MMJB directory. IE7 and IE8 change and remove a bunch of DLLs. The Fix folder has all the files that IE7 and IE8 destroy.

deanst2 posted 2009 Sep 28 07:27
Will the Rapidshare fix work with MMversion 8.1?

wulf109 posted 2009 Sep 28 12:28
In my case the Rapidshare link just provided the intructions to un-install IE8,I didn't run the program. The complete removal of IE8 will restore MMJB.

deanst2 posted 2009 Sep 28 14:03
.....getting around browser seems ok but then Vista will reject MMJB!?

Right but if you wanted to keep IE7 or IE8, all you needed to do was copy the contents of the Fix folder to the MMJB directory. It would've overwritten the DLLs and restored the files that IE7/IE8 replaced.

I don't know about Vista. You have to have IE6 (or older) installed to install MMJB 7.5 and I don't know if you can install IE6 on Vista.

I don't know about MMJB 8.1. I won't run anything newer than 7.5.

I ended up reverting back to IE6 anyway because I got tired of half my sites not working with IE7 and IE8 plus every time I emptied my temporary internet files, everything was still there. Microsoft sure knows how to screw everything up. I really liked the zoom tool (where I could zoom the webpage) in IE8 but everything else about it sucked.

Know where i can geet 7.5 w/a serial?

redwudz posted 2009 Sep 29 15:48
deanst2 , you can get the freeware version 0f 7.5 at: http://www.oldapps.com/musicmatch.php?old_musicmatch=7

If you want a serial number, you have to purchase the full version. Asking about obtaining a serial number for a copyrighted app here can get you banned. :( Please read our rules before posting.

deanst2 posted 2009 Sep 29 21:08
Sorry about that. I know that it's been discontinued or else i would gladly pay again. I did already pay for a serial but for 8.1 version. Don't think this will work with 7.5.
Again...sorry for the indiscretion.

minidv2dvd posted 2009 Sep 29 21:50
did you try your v8 serial with v7.5? it might work, as it was the opposite that usually doesn't. an older serial wouldn't work with a newer version.

like my v5 "lifetime" serial i bought for mmjb that sure didn't last my or any other normal person's lifetime. they canceled mine and every one else's with v7.

Well, you can't, because the product is no more, and there is no one able or willing to sell you the older program version. To my way of thinking, this falls into a very grey area: would pay for a real, no-strings license, but there is no one to take your money. (Your only recourse there might be to take your chances buying the old version with S/N on eBay.) In situations like that, and particularly where the abandonware was quite scarce and no one was selling it used for a long time, I would have no qualms about applying an obtained S/N, no matter what its origin may have been.

Darrell,
Hate to be dense but where do i find the MMJB directory folder? and what is the Fix Folder?
Thanks.

DarrellS posted 2009 Oct 19 18:21
C:\Program Files\MUSICMATCH\MUSICMATCH Jukebox

Download the file below...

http://rapidshare.com/files/171585195/MusicMatch_7___Internet_Explorer_7_Fix.zip

and use 7zip to unzip the file and place the contents of the Fix folder (the folder that you just unzipped) in the MMJB directory. It will add the files that IE deleted and rewrite the ones that IE changed.

You don't need to reinstall MMJB, just put the new files in the existing folder.

deanst2 posted 2009 Oct 19 20:09
....but what do you mean by the "MMJB directory"? Just put the contents into which folder? Can you give me step by step please. Sorry to be so dense...just learning this stuff.

I can't say it any simpler.

C:\Program Files\MUSICMATCH\MUSICMATCH Jukebox

Is there similar fix for MMJB version 8?

I don't know if this will ring a bell for you or any other MMJB users, but I recall running into a problem a couple times (with MMJB 9 or 10), where the program created a whole sub-directory structure that was just geared towards bugging you to update the program. It was a lot of redundant or very expendable junk ! Of course, the company was long defunct by then, so this additional "phone home" apparatus only managed to lead to program corruption. I recall zapping that whole portion of the directory tree, and MMJB would then return to decent functionality -- for awhile. In time, I would have to reinstall it though, which took some do-overs and scrubbing of the Registry, before I got it working again. I'm pretty sure one of these MMJB threads makes reference to killing certain files -- after a successful install -- which is supposed to keep this problem from cropping up again.

deanst2 posted 2009 Oct 21 14:55
Darreell, I inserted the files in the fix folder....keep getting this message when i hit Burn button.
Will this fix work for MMJB 8.0?
Did version 7 have jewel case printing function?

deanst2 posted 2009 Oct 21 14:56
Darrell,
Here's the error message:
"The MUSICMATCH Jukebox software needed for creating CD-R has been updated. If you have a CD-R drive installed you must rrestart your PC before accessin this functionality"

deanst2 posted 2009 Oct 21 15:19
It seems as if the Burner Plus program not opening.

DarrellS posted 2009 Oct 22 01:34
Why did you update the burn engine? You had to have had this problem before inserting the files from the fix folder since they have nothing to do with the burn engine. Did you restart the computer? Something tells me when you tried to use the key for 8.1 that it updated the program. I doubt these files will work for 8.1 since they are for 7.5.

What operating system are you running? I'm not sure MMJB will run on Vista. According to old apps, MMJB only runs on 32 bit XP, ME and 2000. I know it works on 98 also and my friend was using it on 64bit XP (probably in 32bit mode) but dropped it in favor of Media Monkey. You may have to get the pay version of Media Monkey to burn.

What I don't understand is how you can install MMJB on Vista to begin with since Vista ships with IE7 unless you can somehow get rid of IE7 and install IE6 in Vista first (I heard you can have multiple versions of IE but I don't have a clue how). Everyone says that they cannot install MMJB in XP unless they uninstall IE7.

deanst2 posted 2009 Oct 22 11:41
I used an old key i purchased so i do not think that is problem. I use the key to upgrade to Jukebox Plus which has burner capabilities. I wonder if problem is this: when you use the key to upgrade, i believe the upgrade came from Musicmatch Home Page somehow. Now, since there is no homepage i wonder if the Burner Plus software just isn't there or not getting activated. What do you think? If i am correct...how can i load or activate Burner Plus? Should i try putting the Burner Plus DLL from my later version into the 7.0 version or do you have the 7.0 DLL that i can try to load?

DarrellS posted 2009 Oct 22 14:47
The key isn't used to upgrade but to unlock the plus options that are already installed but not unlocked. If you upgraded then you probably upgraded to a version that does not support the plus features since Yahoo offered the free version. Yahoo does not even support MMJB now. They switched to Rapsody.

Obviously, the 8.1 key is not for 7.5. What version does it say in the help files?

Since I do not have Vista, there is nothing I can do to help. Hopefully someone else here has MMJB working on Vista and can help but most people have switched to Media Monkey.

All I can suggest is to reinstall the program.

http://www.oldversion.com/download_MusicMatch_Jukebox_7.5.html

And use the correct key or install 8 and use the key you already have.

http://www.oldversion.com/download_MusicMatch_Jukebox_8.0.html

deanst2 posted 2009 Oct 23 14:26
I am making progress. Just can't get Burner Plus to open with ability to make jewel cases and burn.

deanst2 posted 2009 Oct 25 12:17
The main function i can't get to work that i want in a player is the ability to print jewel case covers with songlist and album art. Do you know any programs that can do this.
Wish i could get burner plus software to work!
