| Is a Panasonic VDR-D100 DVD Camcorder With 30x Optical Zoom a good Camcorder?

| Depends if you only want an instant DVD and don't care to edit. Editing is possible but a hassle with quality drop.
I prefer MiniDV format. |

| I will be using a mac for the editing |

| The editing machine isn't the issue. If you use an mpeg-2 native editor such as Womble, and keep you edits simple, then you can minimise the quality loss by minimising the re-encoding required. If you use an editor that decompresses the mpeg-2 video to the timeline then the whole video will be re-encoded. |

| I will be using iMovie 08 |

| Unfortunately, in typical Apple fashion, the iMovie page is all glitz and no substance. Yes, it will import and edit mpeg-2 video. Will it do so without loss ? Probably not. That said, if you keep the bitrate high enough, said loss may be un-noticeable to most viewers. |
