I have an Aopen Dvd Burner, how can I set booktype in imgburn?

frieday posted 2009 Oct 26 01:34
I looked up my burner Aopen DSW 2012Pa and its OEM is liteon and Im pretty sure it supports bitsetting as well.

So do I just go into imgburn press booktype then click the liteon tag?

cuz i wanna be able to set the booktype to dvdrom...

thanks!

BTW this has nothing to do with authoring DVD's. This post belongs in the DVD & Blu-ray Writer section.

You may have to crossflash your Aopen dvd burner in order to use the LITEON tab to booktype to dvdrom. In other words the firmware on your Aopen dvd burner has to be a LITEON firmware.

Does the Aopen drive have a sticker on it that say's it's LITEON? If it does then you could use the LITEON tab in IMGBURN to booktype to dvdrom. Try it out and see if it's possible for you to do that or not. If not then post your question in the LITEON FORUM at CdFreaks.com. I'm sure someone can guide you in the right direction.

Did you actually look at your AOPEN drive? I mentioned in my first post to look at it to see if it has a LITEON sticker on it. Try clicking on the LITEON TAB in IMGBURN to see if you can set to booktype to dvdrom. Only way is to try it out and see. If it doesn't work then check CDFreaks.com LITEON Forum.

Bro isnt it true that imgburn will with most burners that support bitsetting automatically set the booktype to dvdrom? i just read that im not sure if its true. I suppose I could try writing a disc and seeing with dvdinfo or similar program what booktype it actually comes out as.

IMGBURN will only support the burners that can bitset to dvdrom. As I said go ahead and open up IMGBURN click on the LITEON TAB to see if you can bitset to dvdrom. Geez, That's the only way you'll find out. Nuff said.

Last I heard this was only for LG Drives...and +R only of course.

frieday posted 2009 Oct 26 03:46
the movie was a dvd+r dl

now when I loaded it up in dvdinfopro its telling me that the booktype is set to dvd-rom. So what im saying is it would be safe to say dont you think that it sets the booktype automatically cuz when I burned this disc I didnt change any settings just selected 4x as the burn speed.

hech54 posted 2009 Oct 26 03:54
Since LG is no longer in ImgBurn's list under advanced features - Book Type then I assume that my above statement is correct....only LG drives are automatically set to DVD-ROM booktype for +R media.

As I recall back in the DVDDecrypter days....we had to set the booktype on our LG burners EVERY TIME because for some reason DVDDecrypter could not remember/save/hold the settings for LG drives. I imagine the reason it is now automatic for LG drives is because of this prior problem.

hech thanks for the input I appreciate it :)

LG isnt the same as Liteon is it? Well I know now that I have a rebadged liteon and honestly every movie I been burning I dont bother setting booktype, and when I look at the stats in dvdinfopro its telling me media type dvd+r dl and booktype dvdrom so I guess Ill just keep checking it but I suppose the burner does the bitsetting automatically. Perhaps imgburn has changed to always enable the booktype not sure but seems there was never a problem to begin with, should of analyzed the disc with dvdinfo when I was wondering this in the first place.

hech54 posted 2009 Oct 27 02:07
No....LG and Liteon are not the same. There is now a setting I saw in ImgBurn(and it appears to be a default setting) about booktyping under TOOLS-SETTINGS-WRITE that says 'Auto 'Change Book Type'(*) but what exactly does that mean? Remember your settings?..... or to make all compatible drives set +R discs to ROM(automatically)?

Beats me....:):):)
I haven't used +R since my old Philips DVD Recorder days.

It means it automatically booktypes supported discs/drives to DVD-ROM.
The drive must support some sort of 'temporary' setting for this to work (i.e. one that's lost/forgotten after a reboot). For all other drives, you configure the setting via the booktype feature and that manipulates the drives eeprom so it remembers it forever... from that point on it's automatically handled by the drive (and not ImgBurn itself).

I recall that Aopen use the Ricoh command set for bitsetting so that's the tab you should normally be looking at. Of course if it's an OEM something else (which you say this model is), you should use the tab appropriate for the real manufacturer (i.e. LiteOn)
Assuming it works correctly with the LiteOn commands, add your drive ID to the OEM list via the 'Advanced' button so ImgBurn can then handle it automatically as per the option in the settings.
