How to shrink a Blu-ray to DVD-5,DVD-9 or BD-25

Baldrick posted 2008 Dec 31 04:38
With BD Rebuilder can you now shrink and make a complete/full backup of your Blu-ray movies to DVD sizes(4.37GB or 7.95GB) or to single layer Blu-ray Disc(23GB). This very very very basic guide will show you how it works. And remember that BD Rebuilder is still in BETA mode so it will NOT work on every system and with every Blu-ray movie yet.

Tools required
ffdshow (free)
avisynth (free)
Haali Media Splitter (free)
BD Rebuilder BETA (free)
AnyDVD HD ($111, required for commercial Blu-ray movies)
Imgburn (free, to burn the shrinked Blu-ray on DVD or Blu-ray media)
AVCHD.Patcher ( to make it PS3/Blu-ray compliant)

Preperation
Install ffdshow, haali media splitter, avisynth and AnyDVD HD.
Extract the BD Rebuilder files to a folder.

Guide
Launch BD Rebuilder.
Choose your Blu-ray Drive or the folder with the Blu-ray files.
Set a working path (you need a lot of HDD space, ~15-50GB!!!)
Under Mode choose if you want to backup the entire Blu-ray(Full Backup) or just the Main Movie.
Under Settings->Options choose the output file size, DVD-5(4.37GB), DVD-9(7.95GB) or BD-25(23GB). Bigger file size = better video quality but if you just keep the main movie and ONE audio track you still can get pretty good quality on a DVD-5.
Under Settings->Setup can you set what audio and subtitle tracks you want to keep. Try remove as many audio tracks possible and you will get more space for the video = better video quality. You can also set it to DO NOT convert DTS to AC3 if you want to keep the DTS track.
Backup.

Wait...wait....wait...go to bed...:)

Done

You can now burn the Blu-ray Disc output folder to a DVDR or BDR and it might work on some standalone Blu-ray players. Burn using Imgburn, select Write files/folders to disc, add the folder that BD Rebuilder made and Imgburn will adjust Blu-ray settings correctly.

Problems
If the burned Blu-ray wont play on your PS3/Blu-ray player then try AVCHD.Patcher, http://www.videohelp.com/download/AVCHD-Patcher_1.05.rar , drag and drop the index.bdmv in the BDMV folder on it and then burn with Imgburn.

Be sure that you have installed a newer version of ffdshow and all the other required tools, haali media splitter and avisynth.

And BD Rebuilder is STILL in BETA so it will NOT work on every system and with all Blu-ray movies. So wait for new releases if you get any problems.

Hey Baldrick! I have a question for you, I dont know if you can answer it or not, but how do I get it so I can get the english ac3 tracks as well? Currently I am backing up The Incredible Hulk, but its showing I have just HD_Master, Multi-Ch, English. Do you know if there is a way to include the other 2 ac3 2 channel audio files. I went and looked at the audio selection list, as u suggested above, but I was unsure what to check and what to uncheck as far as all that. Thanks!

yoda313 posted 2009 Jan 10 09:01
So can this work with VISTA?

Also does this work well with a PS3?

Is this a similar process in principal to dvd shrink for dvds?

One last question - Can you preserve chapters with the final dvd burn? I don't really need menus and I know some don't have menus - at least there were hd-dvds that did not have menus - just the pop up in movie menus.

-----------------

My main reason for looking into this is two fold - I don't have a bluray burner and I want to back up high def video for playback - and I have been trying the mp4 backup route with less than ideal success. ALso I don't know if you can do chapters in high def mp4 video.

Megahurts posted 2009 Jan 10 13:37
Does work with the PS3 in 'Movie Only Mode' but not in 'Full Backup'.

Does preserve chapters in full backup but not sure about movie only chapters.

yoda313 posted 2009 Jan 11 09:49
@megahurts - thanks for the feedback.

I wonder why it would not preserve chapters in movie only if it does in full mode??? Anyway sounds like it would be worth checking into at least.

MELIS - thanks for the tip.

I tried AVCHD Patcaher v1.05 on a full disk backup but it wouldn't patch so I tried v1.04 and it worked. It showed as an AVCHD disc on the PS3. It played through all the warnings and trailers then crashed before the main menu.

Tried a different full disc backup and v1.05 worked and the PS3 played it normal. The menu came after the movie on this one, but still worked.

Alright guys!
I did a backup of The Dark Knight. It took about 2 and half to 3 days to get done. But it worked file size was right. The only problem I have now is it plays fine on the PS3 but it wont play on my LG3000 Blu-Ray Player!

Megahurts posted 2009 Jan 17 20:31
@Jake802

I also have a q6600 processor and it never takes longer than 8 hours using BD-Rebuilder. Usually 5-6 hrs. for a DVD5/9 full disc or movie only.

Are you saving to a DVD5/9 or BD-RE?

I noticed that saving to a DVD-RW will play on a PS3 but not on a Philips Blu-ray player but saved on a DVD+R, it will play on both. Maybe that is the issue with your LG player.

Jake802 posted 2009 Jan 17 23:00
BD Full Disc. LG BD-RE Disc. And I take it back about 30-45mins in, it randomly skipped. So Im back to the drawing board!

MEL15 posted 2009 Jan 18 11:52
I had an Lg bh200 that would not play anything I copied on Bd-re or Dvds. The Samsung Bdp-1400 played them all..............I returned the player just for that........other blogs report similar problems and attributed to firmware issues, which Lg is aware of. With HDdvd on dvds the player had no problems.........go figure.

What a great program. And great guide also. But i have a retarded question. Im trying to backup my g*dfather BD. I have tried this new program which worked fine. But when i put the BDMV and certificate folders on IMGburn on 2.50 udf. When i put it in the PS3 i was hoping to see the AVCHD disc icon, but istead it was a data disc icon and i could go through the folder and pick the M2ts files to watch. But i thought if ripped onto a AVCHD disc i could have menu's and all that.

superhulk posted 2009 Jan 18 14:35
Thank you very much Baldrick for your help. But it still does not work. I have tried what you suggested, did not work, Then i tried to do what this bit of the guide says:

Run XVI32 and open the index.bdmv file that was changed. You need to edit INDX0200 to read INDX0100. To do this select the 2 in INDX0200 at the top right as shown in the image below. Type the number 1 and save the file.

5) Now open MovieObject.bdmv from the same directory in XVI32. Similar to the last step, change MOBJ0200 to MOBJ100. Change the 2 shown in the image below to a 1, save the file.

6) Copy the revised index.bdmv and MovieObject.bdmv files from /BDMV to /BDMV/BACKUP. You'll need to overwrite the files that are already in the backup directory.

7) Burn the /BDMV folder with all the contents to a DVD using UDF 2.5 format. Step 4 from this guide shows how to set the disc format with ImgBurn or Nero. AVCHD does not seem to include the /CERTIFICATE folder from BDMV, but it doesn't appear to matter if you also burn /CERTIFICATE with /BDMV.

Im not a total newb, I do usually use ripbot but i thought this would be better for G*^father because of the subtitles. I cant quite get them to work with suprip. All the lines are messed up. And if i went through GF2 theres like 1'500 lines i would be doing it forever. By they way this backup way works opn my PC with POWERDVD. But i really need it to work on my PS3. Any other help please?

I am doing BD Full Disc Copies. Using the an LG GGW-H20L Blu-Ray Burner. With LG BD-RE Discs, On a Pentium Core 2 Duo E6850, with 6GBs of RAM. It is taking me almost 3 days to do one full disc and then the disc played(but skips randomly)on the PS3. The disc won't play at all on an LG3000 Blu-Ray Player! The conversion times seem to be too long to me, and I don't understand why they're not playing is all. I love the way the program works and what it does though! I did notice that my blu-ray burner shows as SCSI under device mgr and two of my hard drives do as well. Could this be an issue? And if so how do i fix it?

Megahurts posted 2009 Jan 18 20:04
superhulk

If there is a 00000.bdjo file in the BDMV/BDJO folder then the PS3 won't allow it to play from a DVD5/9. It will play if it is burned to a BD-RE disc.
If you use 'Movie only' mode, the burned DVD will play on a PS3.

You can use the original subtitles using Ripbot if you save as a 'blu-ray disc' and check 'keep jobs queue'. Use TsMuxer to remux the 00001.m2ts file made from Ripbot and the Sup file in the temp folder. To use the original chapter points, edit the chapter.txt file in the temp folder to be used in TsMuxer/Blu-ray chapter settings.
Create a blu-ray disc.

Baldrick, thanks for the PM the other day pointing me towards BD Rebuilder. I successfuly backed up my Blade Runner blu-ray onto a DVD9 (movie only) using the PS3 patch. I've spent the last couple of days doing quality comparison tests on a PS3 via a 2m wide picture provided my my Sanyo Z2000. I referenced pixelation / soft focus / noise "issues" on the back-up with the original blu-ray and I must say, for the vast majority they were on the original blu-ray too. It was my plan buy a 1Tb external drive and store just pure blu-ray rips on it as a feed to the PS3 but now I'm pretty sure I'll be using BD Rebuilder. So my experience was that there was a bit more noise on the back-up but nothing that spoiled the show. The colours on the backup seemed to be a little weaker but that could have been my imagination.

Has anyone used the colour boost option yet? What results have you got with it?

Also, will BD Rebuilder work on HD-DVD rips to produce the same result?

It would be nice it BD rebuilder had a queue function and a shut-down PC when finished option too like Ripbot. Also a box to tick to produce PS3 compatable rips straight off the bat would be nice too.

Thanks again for your help and for this guide. I've been waiting for this moment for a long time. It's always good to have your data backed up.

Regards,

YP

I just tried BD Rebuilder for the first time, and everything went well except for extreme stuttering on my PS3. The whole process went through uneventfully. I did movie only mode, and in setup I ticked the option for movie only mode extra AVCHD compliance (I guessed I should check this since I was doing movie only...and compliance is a good thing, right?).

I burned on Verbatim DVD+R DL from my LG DVD burner (at 2.4x speed...the native speed of the disc). The picture looks great, but it stutters terribly from the second it starts. I tried three discs and two burners. In each case the video stuttered (the sound was great and did not stutter at all). I'm compressing to a DVD5 right now just to see if that stutters or not, but I really want to get the DVD9 working. I've burned and played a DVD9 AVCHD disc on my PS3 before, Star Wars Episode 4 that was recorded off TV, so I know it can play them (and I burned on media from the same spindle that's I'm using now...although my burners are new).

Has anyone else run into this stuttering/skipping issue on their PS3? I would love to get this working and it seems like its so close.

stazna01 posted 2009 Jan 25 21:29
Just as a follow up to my last post...

I compressed my blu ray (Pirates of the Caribbean) to a DVD5 and ran into the exact same issue as when I made a DVD9. The weird thing being that it was stuttering at exactly the same places. I then tried playing the directories off of my hard drive through PowerDVD 8. Both the DVD5 and DVD9 directories played perfectly. I then played the m2ts files through PowerDVD 8 directly from both DVDs just to make sure the DVDs were OK. Again, both played perfectly. Next, I tried a regular burned DVD in my PS3 (from the same drive I'm burning these AVCHD discs). The regular DVD played perfectly. I'm at a loss. Is it possible I'm burning the AVCHD discs with the wrong settings? I let it use the defaults imgBurn suggested (UDF and 2.50). Is there anything else I could be missing?

programmer_rich posted 2009 Jan 26 09:52
Great guide Baldrick but I'm having the same problem as superhulk and stazna01 when playing back a DVD9 on the PS3 - extreme stuttering.

I'm using BD Rebuilder to do a Movie Only backup of "The Pursuit of Happyness" at the highest quality (slowest encoding) setting for a DVD9 (DVD+R DL). Then I patch the index.bdmv using AVCHD.Patcher.

My PS3 identifies the disc as an AVCHD and start playing. Audio is fine but video has extreme stuttering (losing more frames than it displays).

(Possible red herring but testing the m2ts file on my PC with VLC gives almost identical stuttering to the PS3 and stats show many dropped frames - playing at half speed in VLC and it's looks great with no dropped frames)

If anyone has had this problem and worked out a solution please post the answer and put me out of my misery! Many thanks in advance.

I just wanted to offer a quick update. I did copy the m2ts file onto my PS3 hard drive just so I could rule out the DVD drive having issues with my DVDs. The hard drive copy skips exactly the same as the DVD copy. I also did a new compression without checking the extra AVCHD compliance box...and also didn't bother to use the patching utility. The results were the same. It stutters at the exact same places (and again, does not stutter whatsoever on my PC when played through PowerDVD 8).

YolkiePolkie, from your post it appears that you are having no problems playing your DVD9 blu-ray backups on your PS3, unlike myself, superhulk, and stazna01. Did you do anything different from Baldrick's guide? Does your PS3 recognise the DVD9 backup as a AVCHD?

I'm making fairly wild guesses now but can you tell me what firmware you're running (my PS3 stutters running both 2.53 and 2.60)?

Finally I assume your PS3 is running in 1080/24p output to your Z2000. Unfortunately I've only got a PLVZ4 and hence have my PS3 is set to output 720p. This is a long shot but if you've got 5 minutes would you mind turning off the 24p mode on your PS3 and try testing playback at 720p (I know it's a long shot but if you followed the guide like we did there most be something different in your setup somewhere).

YolkiePolkie, have you done any other movies successfully yet?

I'm having the same problem with stuttering on the PS3 with version 0.18.7 of BD Rebuilder. I have been trying unsuccessfully to do a movie only copy of Max Payne for about a week now. The previous version of BD-Builder crapped out at the point where it started to rebuild the blu-ray. The new version makes it through the encode and rebuild, but the resulting m2ts file skips and stutters both when burned to disk (PS3 and PC), and when streamed through PS3 Media Server.

On a hunch I went back did another movie only copy of a blu-ray that I had successfully copied with the initial BD-Rebuilder release. Although it worked with the earlier version, the latest version of BD-Rebuilder created an m2ts file that skips and stutters on playback.

I am at a loss as to what the problem is on my end, as nothing changed in my PC setup other than I am using a more recent version of BD-Rebuilder. Hopefully the next version will fix the problem.

Running PS3 firmware version 2.60.

Encountered the reported video stutter problem that others have run into.
Using latest BR-RB beta 0.18.07 while converting "Movie Only" to a BD-5 (testing only, as the quality for a 3 hour movie is not that great - still better than DVD though).

Anyways, here's what I did that ended up fixing the problem:

- Opened up the *.AVS.264 file from the WORKFILES directory (created by BD-RB) in H264info
- checked the "Remove pulldown" checkbox
- ran H264info and created a new file, *_NoPulldown.AVS.264
- opened up TSMuxer GUI
- added the newly-created no-pulldown 264 file, and the *.AC3 file from the WORKFILES directory (created by BD-RB)
- selected the "Create Blu-ray Disc" option and ran it
- burned the resulting folders to a DVD+RW using ImgBurn with UDF 2.50

Hope this helps.

VID_00001.AVS.264 - 6.8 GB
VID_00002.AVS.264 - 3 KB

Do I remove the pulldown from both and then mux both with the audio, or do I just use the bigger file?

Also, I have two AC3 files...so do I mux both of those as well?

Many thanks Lawbringer for the detailed instructions. One point of clarification; did you need to use AVCHD.Patcher to patch the resulting index.bdmv file?

BTW on the BD Rebuilder bug reports forum they're claiming that BD Rebuilder version 17.13 works fine with the PS3:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1243008#post1243008
as you can still download this version it may be an simplier (and quicker) solution until jdobbs hopefully fixes the problem in a new version of BD Rebuilder.

It appears the problem with BD Rebuilder 18.07 backups stuttering on PS3 playback relates to the pulldown settings as verified by Lawbringer in his post on the videohelp forum:
http://forum.videohelp.com/topic361854-30.html#1933023

jdobbs, has there been a change to the encoding pulldown settings in BD Rebuilder since version 17.13? If so can you tell us which version of BD Rebuilder introduced this problem so users who care about PS3 playback can use the last version without the problem (hopefully without having to go all the way back to version 17.13)?

Obviously if you could also fix the problem in the next release of BD Rebuilder I'm sure all the PS3 owners will be very grateful! BTW great job on BD Rebuilder so far.

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1243008#post1243008
as you can still download this version it may be an simplier (and quicker) solution until jdobbs hopefully fixes the problem in a new version of BD Rebuilder.

Rich,

I did not need to use the AVCHD.Patcher, since I was doing a "Movie Only" encode, and those work fine on the PS3 - shows up as an AVCHD disc.

I haven't tried the earlier version of BD-RB, so can't attest to 17.13 one way or another. The solution I posted was ONLY for v18.07, and ONLY with a single m2ts file.

stazna01 :

Thanks for the tip, Lawbringer. Question, though. In my workfiles directory I have two "264" files.

VID_00001.AVS.264 - 6.8 GB
VID_00002.AVS.264 - 3 KB

Do I remove the pulldown from both and then mux both with the audio, or do I just use the bigger file?

Also, I have two AC3 files...so do I mux both of those as well?

stazna,

honestly, don't know, as I've only tried it with a single m2ts file (and there was only one 264 and one AC3 file to deal with). The second 264 file is suspiciously small - I'd check the first file out with VLC and see if the movie is completely there. Did you do a "Movie Only" encode? If that's the case, I'd say remove the pulldown from the first file, and mux the result with the largest AC3 with the latest date in tsMuxeR. Make sure the resulting m2ts plays fine before burning, of course.

I'm still fairly new to this myself, and am learning by doing.

wulf109 posted 2009 Jan 29 17:25
My expierence with BD Rebuilder is that encodeing the m2ts to a smaller size removes pulldown. If pulldown was causing the stutter, that's why it's gone.

When you build the BD directory with TSMuxer, click on the audio stream - midway through the GUI there should be an "audio" area with a dropdown - pick the language that you want.

Alternatively, you can go into BD-RB settings and change the "keep audio language" to be "All Languages" rather than the default. That should take care of the X

No I was ripping the BD (Wall-E) with AnyDVD.

yoda313 posted 2009 Feb 01 08:06
Ok this is the second time I've tried bd rebuilder and it simply hangs.

I first used version 17.13 last night. It went through the collecting video information stage and then I let it sit overnight. Nothing happened. It made the working files directory with a 1gig of audio data. However it did not process anything.

I have a dual core amd 2.7ghz processor. I didn't expect it to be all done in 8 hours on a dual core but I would have expected it to do SOMETHING. FYI I am running vista premium and it does work apparently so I don't think its a Vista issue - otherwise the program wouldn't start right?

I downloaded version 18.7 and I'm going through the same issue. It is just hanging after it starts the collecting video information stage.

Here is my process before getting to this point:

I ripped a hd-dvd with anydvd hd. I then took evodemux to get the h264 avc stream and the ac3 audio. In tsmuxer I muxed it to a bluray disc structure. Here I changed it to 24000 fps instead of 30, and removed the pulldown. I did get a mistiming error report but the muxing finished. I ended up getting a 22gb folder in a bluray layout after the muxing. This is what I used as the target source for bdrebuilder. I also chose movie only mode.

Am I missing something here? I do understand it will take awhile to process but shouldn't there be some progress and not simply hang? FYI its not really hanging per se because I can close it and I don't have a "not responding" error message. But it is simply not doing anything.

Now there was a previous poster who said it took him 3 days to process with bd rebuilder. Could it be I will be in this same situation with the current release of bd rebuilder and its simply taking hours to BEGIN processing?

I've tried ripbot a few times but I keep getting errors or files that don't work on the ps3. Last night I even had it finish but no apparent output file was created.

It seems like for me personally until I buy a bluray burner it's just not there yet for bluray conversion like dvd is. So either I'm going to wait for bluray burners to drop to a reasonable price (forget media prices that will take longer but you need the hardware first) or I need this conversion process to come along further before I can do this properly.

Are there any alternatives to ripbot or bdrebuilder at this point? I'd really like a true bluray shrink version of dvd shrink. I appreciate what bdrebuilder is trying to accomplish and it seems like that is the desired goal but it is just too early in the beta stage for realiable results for all users apparently.

EDIT - I'm gonna try xvid4psp again. I want a hd compressed file to preserve the high def of the hd-dvd but small enough to fit on a dvd and play on a ps3. I think I do remember someone saying they got a 4gb mp4 to play on a ps3 but no surroudn I think. I just want something that works. I'd love surround sound of course. I might still try high def divx or xvid as long as they support 5.1 ac3 and don't have a 4gb limit.

wulf109 posted 2009 Feb 01 10:03
Ripbot in my expierence is a lot more stable than BD Rebiulder. Ripbot requires some additional programs to be installed, are you sure you have them. I can't remember Ripbot failing on me,but BD Rebiulder is 50/50 at best.
The HD-DVD movie your converting, does it use VC-1 or AVC video. Some HD-DVD's use AVC,the majority use VC-1.
I've run into severe stutter problems with AVC encoded disks. I find that TSmuxer is not stable, but there's really no alternative. You might try TSremux. Try using 264info to remove pulldown and other operations, again TSmuxer does not do a good job on removing pulldown.
Also Ripbot will load HD-DVD's directly,no need to convert to Blueray first.

yoda313 posted 2009 Feb 01 12:06
@wulf109. Thanks. I might give ripbot another try.

I have an X-box HD-DVD player hooked up to my computer using PowerDVD 8 and that will play a DVD with Blueray content. Your original post seemed to suggest it would work on a standalone. My standard DVD-rom computerv drive will also play it. None of that is new. Again your original post seemed to suggest it would work with a standalone.

frozeninsane posted 2009 Feb 03 00:54
@wulf109
I was never trying to imply a standalone; however, my question is this, will this disc play on a standalone blu-ray drive. I do not have one to test, everything is connected on and through my laptop. The mystery is this, dvd's are file extension .vob, hd-dvds are .evo, and blu-ray are .m2ts. My question again is why can this be played on anything other than a Blu-ray player if the file format is strictly for a blu-ray player. The HD-DVD player does not recognize a normal blu-ray disc only this revision of the dvd+r image of the blu-ray. Anomaly?

Are you sure you need to use H264info to remove the pulldown? jdobbs questioned this at doom9.org, so I manually rebuilt three BD9 movie only backups that skipped on the PS3 when rebuilt using the latest version of BD-Rebuilder. I skipped the H264info steps. Using the unmodified AVS.264 file(s) from the WORKFILES directory created by BD-Rebuilder, I was able to create disks that played back on the PS3 without skipping.

also, i did not load haali media splitter. the bdrebuilder page didnt say that it needed this program, but baldrick says you do. what is the case. is it a typo on the download page, and haali media splitter is really needed? i think my problem may be in ffdshow setup because i cannot play the regular mt2s file in the ripped bluray using the ffdshow codecs. i get sound but no video.

Using "ALL CAPS' in a post will also get your post ignored by most of our members. :( This is considered shouting and not a good idea if you want someone to respond.

Most Blu-ray discs have True HD audio, and you may need to convert that to AC-3 audio. Or select a different audio track. I don't know for sure, I don't use BD Rebuilder that often. You might want to look to the author for better information. He posts on the Doom9 forum most times. http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=143716

BD Rebuilder is a 'beta' program. That means it may not work for everyone. If you go to the Doom9 site, you may get better information about your specific problem.

I should add that not all Blu-ray discs are easy to work with. Some require a bit more knowledge. Have you tried other discs with the program?

After the install, run "Video Decoder Configuration" for FFDSHOW from the "START/Programs" menu, and make sure MPEG2 decoding is enabled. also you need AVISYNTH 2.57 or newer. and try the newest version of BD-RB, v0.20.03.

for VC-1 encodes, have WMP11 installed, and in ffdshow have VC-1 disabled, so as to let WMP11 decode it.

some interlaced video sections do give BD-RB problems right now, the author is aware of this, but i think its mostly due to the inability for decoders to properly decode the video. the new nVidia decoders seem to work some people have said.

rmeyers posted 2009 Mar 09 14:44
i have MPEG2 disabled because i have PowerDVD installed on my system, and i let that decode my mpeg2. otherwise, have it at libmpeg2, if that doesnt work, try libav.

but its saying that it fails to retrieve audio. hmm. maybe take a screenshot of the disc in BDInfo 0.52. BD-RB does have trouble with 7.1 sources at the moment. that could be the problem.

Hi all,
This seems to be my latest problem,

Trying to do a full backup with menus and all from a BD50 to a BD25.

Now the problem seems to be if the movie file is in seperate mt2s file (split) I can get it to reincode using the lastest version of bd_rebuilder but when burned and played it plays so much of the film and the it either locks up or jumps scenes.

I have none of these problems if the film is in just the 1 mt2s file, is there a way to fix this or a possible work around??

To Davie, I had the problem with the 1080i files, Make sure you have no other codex on your system and all the software you need to run bd_rebuilder correctly, These inclued the latest FFDSHOW and the Matroska splitter and AVISYNTH for it to work properly, this fixed the problem with the 1080i files for me

I've processed a few BD's with BD-Rebuilder with zero problems (Thanks Baldrick) but I'm having major issues with AVCHD PATCHER. I have a PS3 and of course it reads my BD-9's as data discs. When I try to run the AVCHD Patcher progam, it gives an error when I drag the index file to it and doesn't patch!? Any suggestions on what I can do? I've tried a couple of different versions of the AVCHD Patcher program and am having no luck.

I'm running Windows Vista 64..

Rick

UPDATE: Got it working now... :)

Ok... so I have the discs working on my PS3 now, but only the ones that are "movie only". If I do an entire disc (with menus) it doesn't read them properly (still sees them as a data disc) even though I ran it through the patching program the same way I did the movie-only discs. Any suggestions? I'd really like to have full disc functionality, instead of 'movie only'.

Rick

The Klingon subtitles are probably in the last english substream. They were on star Trek I and III,and also on The Day The Earth Stood Still. If your disk has 2-3 english substreams, the last one is probably it. You could also play the disk and count the subtreams to find which one you want.

I have sucessfully, used D-Rebuilder on lu-ray ึpen Season", with fantastic results, after burning to DVD-5 But when I did Black Hawk down, I only got the directors copy and sound when selecting Movie only.
I also ripped Rambo with ANYDVD-HD,, as BD-Rebuilder just would not encode it. But even though I selected the movie files only from the AnyDVD-HD Rip, that also only played two different types of directors copies, but movie sound. I believe I have all the encoders required. When selecting Movie only, generally the sotware gos for the largest file, but Rambo was made up of about 9 file big and small, and most were not as big as some of the trailers. Has anyone got any help they can share.

Hi everyone,

I have just run BD_Rebuilder for the first time, trying to make a Blu Ray fit on a BD25 disc.

BD_Rebuilder ran and created a BDMV folder. I ran the index.bdmv file though AVCHD Patcher successfully.

However, I've noticed that BD_Rebuilder did not create a CERTIFICATE folder.

Should I go ahead and burn just the BDMV folder, or will the missing CERTIFICATE folder stop my OPPO Blu Ray player from playing?

I appreciate any advice - thanks in advance.

Sometime certain Microsoft Libraries can become unregistered when installing and uninstalling a lot of software. One very common problem is the MSCOMCTL.OCX.

To correct the error, first search your drive for MSCOMCTL.OCX to see if you have it. If not you can download it from HERE...
http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/mscomctl.zip

The file should be placed in your C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. Or, if you are C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 if you are using WinXP.

Once it is there click START--> RUN and type "REGSVR32 MSCOMCTL.OCX" (No quotes) in the box.

That should fix the problem.

cwickstylz posted 2009 Sep 07 00:33
Got it figured out!

If anyone else is having the problem with registering 'MSCOMCTL.OCX' on a Vista 64 setup here's what I did...

Download the file of course (there are numerous links above to locations). Then place the file in windows\sysWOW64. Then goto start & type in 'cmd' at the bottom to search for the command prompt location, but do not click on it yet! You will need to right click on it & run as administrator. Then once at the command prompt, type the following...

regsvr32 \windows\sysWOW64\MSCOMCTL.OCX

It should register the file & you should be set.

One question I have for those out there, I just started my first rebuild & have new i7-920 processor, but am showing only around 10% processor usage. Is there something I need to do to get this program to utilize my processor more effectively?

Thanks everyone!

First of all, thanks to milOtis for an excelent guide!

This is just to give you some tips and share how I did it and maybe save u some time.

Instead of separatly downloading and installing all the codec packs, u can use one for all. Like rmeyers previosly suggests, download the K-Lite Codec Pack. It will automaticly tell you if you have any conflicting codecs and promt u to un-install them. You will also get reminders when new versions are avalible and thus keeping all your codecs up to date.

Another good choice is to download the trial versions of Elecard MPEG2 and AVC HD players. This is primarily because they create stable registry links, so the objective is not to use them as default encoders/decodes.

U can also, instead of using AnyDVD HD, try DVDFab 6 (not freeware either, the beta might be, I think). It will rip your BD to a HDD folders with subs and sound of your choice with impressing speed. Then you just use BD Rebuilder to get it into your favorite size. For those who use XP, UDF Reader is a useful tool if you want to brows the BD folder on the disc. You might of course also need AVCHD‐Patcher.

Hope this is to good use for some one!

allso..

Thanks jdobbs!!! :D

Alot of members here are reporting issues with DVD5 and DVD9 compatibility. But I'm aiming towards BD25 and was wondering is the compatibility issue on a BD25 based on the type of media or method of encoding/burning? That is of course if their is a compatibility issue with BD25.

I don't see why not, I want to be able to have it play on all bluray standalones and ps3, but I needed to know if anyone knew..

Also, this question is regards to Baldrick, can we have a Bluray Player compatible section like we do on the DVD Player section for compatibility, I know it might be too soon but next summer its going to be the norm with all the prices going down and possibly a Bluray hack :)

I created the BD-5 with both DVD-R and DVD+R and they both working great :D . I don't have PS3 or Standalone BD player, the only thing that I have to play Blu-Ray is my LG H20L and it played both disks without any problems. Here is the kicker, these disks can also play the movie on my PC-DVD player (TSS Tcorp CDDVDW SH-S223Q) using PowerDVD!!! and the video and audio is exactly the same quality as with the LG H20L. This is great but 24 hrs to make a backup to me it is not realistic but to know that this can be done is more than I can ask. I'm sure we'll get this down some day and having a better PC would help too (like 8-core PC that someone has...) I really enjoy reading these posts and do learn alot from you all and hope I can and will contribute some ideas soon. Thanks again and have a great day!
