How to create text effect like names on intro in CSI:Miami | ||

| Hi.
I have searched a lot and can't get any hits, so I try here. The topic pretty much describe the situation. I would like to create similar effect on my own, homemade video (for fun) like the one that the name of the actors in CSI:Miami appear at at the beginning at every show. I am making a home made video for a friend of mine, and he is a very big fan of CSI, so I thought he would appreciate that gimmic. Any of you who have an idea of how this can be done?? | What format video? What software are you using? Most edit packages can add titles, even Windows Movie Maker. | ||

| You are basically looking at two titles with a wipe to reveal the true text from the gibberish. For that type of effect you propbably need a higher end tool such as Vegas or Premiere or FCP. | ||

I guess I gave too less info here. The format is DV-AVI, I run W7, and have access to Studio 14 and Premiere Elements 8. These are the two editing programs I have used so far and know pretty well. Have'nt found the possibility to create this effect in either of them. @guns1inger - I think you are right. Guess we are talking about a wipe from one type of text to another here. Maybe several wipes to create the "rolling numbers" effect ?? I have tried to google that too - but can't find a good answer to do this. If anyone could point me in a direction of a plugin or standalone program to do this, I'm quite willing to do a learning curve here (as I probably have to.....) Again - thanks so far. | ||

Avisynth. Make the text in Photoshop, or using Subtitle(). Then do a wipe dissolve: http://avisynth.org/vcmohan/TransAll/docs/TransWipe.html | ||

| The guys who did these credits are probably working with something like After Effects/Fusion, several plugins, many layers, custom scripts, and a whole lot of experience.
That said, the basics should be doable in Elements | ||

| Look at a program called Bluff Titler, it's cheap as chips and will do what you want. | ||

| This is real simple to do with the titler within Premiere.
Create the first one with the formula, then make successive ones as a copy from it, changing the characters one at a time. Put them on the next video track above your basic video tracks. You can do any transition from one to the other on that video track. I do that sort of thing all the time with opening titles where I add another line as it progresses. I could do it with Photoshop or After Effects but it is simple enough to just do it within Premiere....depending on simplicity/complexity of desired look/effect. | ||

Thanks to you all for your time and crativity. Appreciated !! I have downloaded and tried out Blufftitler. It's an amazing program, that surely does wonders about text and 3D effects. Have'nt figured out exactly how to create that CSI effect yet - but will study more here. I have also tried the routhe that kimco52 suggested, but so far the result is not even close. Could of course be that I have'nt found the right trasition to use yet. Again - thanks so far. | ||

You will need to create the effect with multiple layered wipe transitions just like they did. They didn't push a button on some consumer program. |
