Help! trying to convert flv to mp3 with ffmpegX
lilly333 posted 2008 May 22 16:23
Hi there,

I'm desperately trying to convert an flv file (not corrupt, I can view it with vlc media player) into some audio film. i have tried mp2 and mp3 but several time, but al it does is to produce a 0KB file. So when I try to play it with itunes, there's... nothing.

Please help! What can I do to fix it? I'm running it on Mac OS X.4.11 on a MacbookPro.

Your help is very much appreciated.
Kind regards, lilly333

Have a try with FLV Extract.

No installation is required, drop your flv file and you'll have a nice avi and mp3 file.

Good luck.

Click the blue "i" in the ffmpegX Progress window to open up the Process Information log. If the last line reads something like "Codec type mismatch for mapping #0.1 -> #0.0", then try setting the "Invert mapping" checkbox in the Audio tab and Encode again.

@OkeN

Thanks for your help! I've downloaded FLV Extract but it seems to work with Windows only....at least that's what it looks like to me since I can't fnd a program file that I'm able to open...

@Case

Yes!! That was the problem. I did check the "invert mapping" box & now it works like a charm. Thanks a lot!!! :D

As Moitah's programs (including FLV Extract) are usually .NET-based, you can try running FLV Extract using the OS X version of the Mono framework. I couldn't guarantee it'd work, however, and you would also have to run it from a Terminal session.
There was a discussion thread somewhere (not on VideoHelp) that dealt with Moitah's programs using Mono under OS X, and I think the author himself was participating... but I can't seem to find that discussion at the moment.

Edit: I haven't tried it, but I was searching MacUpdate for some FLV viewers for a different post, and I came across iExtractMP3. Maybe that'll work, too.

I found that to get audio from a FLV using ffmpegX I needed to choose "Audio to mp3".

Or use iExtractMP3, works like a charm (Mac only).
