| :lol: :lol: ^^^^My friend just told another friend to buy a MAC for that same specific reason. :lol: :lol:
My answer to that was if you've got cash to burn then by all means buy a MAC. :lol:

| That ain't nothing...
My mother-in-law wanted me to buy her a new dishwasher, new air-conditioner, and even a new car when each item "broke". That will be the day... It's a mentality that some industries have brainswashed some of their clients with, notably women it seems. How sexist of them...What about all the hapless, wimpy doods? Whether or not the same brand is replaced is another question...

| I haven't had a real Virus since at least 3 years. Even on the old computers with just the free AVG. | ||||
| ocgw posted 2009 Oct 18 15:59 | ||||
Free AVG + Spybot is all I need sitting behind a hardware firewall lol I get McAfee free from Comcast and don't even use it, too much of a resource hog like Norton Maybe the Craigslist ad dude should pay for a reputable pr0n download site instead of cruisin' for free pr0n, then he might not get hammered by so many viruses ocgw peace

Buy an Amiga! :lol: --dES

Almost every single infection and most other problems are because of PEBKAC. Though I use Linux, if you setup and maintain Windows properly, it's as rock solid, and virus resistant as Linux. It seems fairly common that those that have issues with Windows tend to have issues with Linux - 3 fold ;).
My sister is the same way. Her and her husband bought a new SUV off the show room floor 2 years ago. Last month it needed a brake job (they started to squeal a little). Instead of doing proper maintenance, they just traded it in for something newer. More money than brains - that's what I always say.

you really should clean out those temp folders.

| Hey, if I could get my Commodore 64 to work with DSL and post to VideoHelp, I'd be set. :P | ||||

| a coworker bought a new PC because their old one had a virus...
I asked him what he did with the old one and he said 'it's out on the porch'. 3 hours later and I've got a 'new' music server!

| I see no reason to upgrade my TI-99/4a to an Amiga at this point, my graphics are fine. | ||||

| When I worked for Calyx Software, there were brokers all over the place that would do this very thing. Their computers were infected and they would just go buy another one. | ||||

A 64 doesn't work with DSL? I posted this with a VIC20 and an assembler card... :)
| Ai Haibara posted 2009 Oct 21 02:01 | ||||
| Just meant that I'd have to find the hardware/connections for it, that's all. :) (Probably would also help if I had a hard drive... must be fun browsing the net on floppy disk alone. :P) | ||||

Floppy? Cassette all the way! 8)

| Some time in the 80s a friend told me: "I bought a monster IBM compatible computer with MS DOS. It has a huge 40 MB HDD and bought a printer too. It cost me $11.000". We all looked at him with a little envy.
(I didn't know how to push the start switch by then).

| Sometimes it does make more sense to buy a new computer than spend days to fix the old one. Especially for the people with computers more than three years old that they barely know how to turn on. Some people simply have more money coming in than the time lost to repair.
As for old computers. I used to dream about having a floppy disk and 64 KB of RAM. Turn on the Apple ][+ Turn on the audio cassette Type 3d0g and hit return Go to the bathroom Come back and wait some more Hear the dreaded double beep Rewind the audio cassette Repeat until there is a SINGLE beep Play game in low res Low res being 40 by 40 Ethelred

I keep a old Mac SE30 around for nostalgia purposes. 9" B+W screen. It has Space Invaders on it and works very well. :) I haven't tried to get it on the net, but it would probably work for that.
When you consider the amount of computers that end up in the junk pile, not surprising that some people would just replace a computer when it stops working, even from malware. Most times it's difficult to give a older computer away as nobody seems to want them anymore, at least around here. :(

| Indeed - I have a P4 1.6GHz with 256MB RAM, 17" monitor, 10b/100 & a 56k that I've been trying to get rid of for cheap...
It works great! Sure, it's nothing fancy but what do most people use their PC for really? Internet & email... I can't even get $75 for it!

MACs get viruses too. | ||||

I've seen those turned into small aquariums. Quite the conversation piece.

No they don't!!! On my TV there is a fat guy in a suit named PC and a skinny guy in dufus hipster gear named Mac. Every time they come on my TV it ends the same: PC always fails and Mac is infallable. I don't even use my home or car Windows anymore for fear they will fail. My TV says it's true!!! So it must be!!!
| nonoitall posted 2009 Oct 28 05:50 | ||||
| They couldn't say it on TV if it wasn't true!!! |
