From DVD to Premiere Pro using Mpeg Streamclip

rolfwerks posted 2009 Nov 02 18:08
Hi,

I'm trying to get the best conversion from DVD to Premiere Pro (CS3) using Mpeg Streamclip to edit clips. I'm lost as far as what parameters to select after I choose Create AVI. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Huh? Premiere Pro is an NLE, MPEG Streamclip is a basic MPEG cutter. No relation.

Copy the content of the DVD to the HDD. Use VOB2MPG to extract the video and audio to an mpg file. Either load and edit this in Premiere, or convert it to Huffyuv or lagarith with virtualdubmpeg2 and edit in Premiere.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll try and be more clear.

I don't want to copy the contents of the (DVD) disk onto a HDD. I just need select clips. That's why I'm using Mpeg Streamclip...to go in and surgically grab the clips I want. I am already doing it, I just don't know the best settings within the (Create AVI) window to select for the best quality clip.

If it's a retail disc you can't just rip clips without removing copy protection first. You could use mpg2cut2 to "surgically" grab clips on non copy protected DVD's (or remove protection first by ripping it to your hard drive e.g. dvd fab, or "on the fly" with anydvd)

Best quality would be the original format (i.e. MPEG2) as guns1inger suggested or a lossless AVI intermediate (e.g. huffyuv or lagarith). The lossless intermediate takes many times more space
