| I tried to download ffmpegX.dmg onto a OSX 10.4.8 ibook G3, but when I began to download, the computer displayed both an icon for ffmpegX.dmg and then an excel document called ffmpegX.dmg.part. When the download is finished, it says it cannot finish it because it can't find the source code for the excel doc., which I don't think is supposed to be there anyway. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I don't have an intel MAC yet, so I'm still running on PPC. Can anyone help? I really want to be able to use this program. | ||

| I'm guessing you're using Firefox to download ffmpegX.dmg.
I've seen Firefox do that while it's downloading. It will allocate both the correct filename and another file with an additional .part extension - that's the incomplete, downloading file, and will (should) be deleted when the download is finished. Don't worry about it, if that's the case. :) | ||

| By 'allocate,' I meant that both filenames will be created in the folder that you're saving the file to. In this case, you would see the following:
"ffmpegX.dmg" - Empty file, while the actual ffmpegX.dmg is being downloaded. Once it's finished downloading, the actual file will replace the 'empty' file. "ffmpegX.dmg.part" - The actual ffmpegX.dmg file as it's being downloaded, and incomplete. Once the download is complete, this will replace the above file, and is normally deleted. You won't normally have to worry about opening the .part files.
What problem are you experiencing? Any specific error messages? I believe the components offered on the ffmpegx download page are universal binaries, if I remember correctly, and should work on a PPC system as well as an Intel Mac. | ||

| Right-click (or CTRL-click) on the link and select the option to save the file/link, rather than click on the link normally. In Firefox, the one you want to choose should be "Save Link As...", I believe.

| Are you still having trouble downloading mpeg2enc.intel, or do you have a copy of it saved to your hard drive?
If you have it saved to disk, don't run it directly. Try following the directions on http://www.ffmpegx.com/download.html , under How to install:. | ||

| Are you trying to open the 'ffmpegX.dmg.part' file? That should be an incomplete or downloading file, if you're using Firefox as well. (I'm not sure offhand if Mozilla/Seamonkey or Camino also do this.) Let the download finish, and then try opening/mounting the 'ffmpegX.dmg' file. |
