| Did we do something to the posting of images in the Off Topic forums ??
I can't see any of my images to show. I've had this problem in a prev posting but brushed it off to my tiredness with dealing with it. Now, I'm trying to post again, and it is still happening. The images are in PNG format, but they display fine in other forum posts I have made in the past. Whats the deal or rule here ?? --> http://forum.videohelp.com/topic346120.html#1845770 -vhelp 4668

| Just posted a png in that thread with no problems. I converted it to png from a bmp with MS Paint. I'll remove it after a bit as it's off topic for that thread. :)

| I've tried with both methods, and image will not show:
This showed up when I originally made the post. It show (by default) and the bottom of the screen: vhelp.indiana.jones.attod.1.png But, I used the short-hand method by using the actual filename:
Nothing shows. Earlier today, I made a post or two, and the images show with no problems using the short-hand method. That can be found here: --> http://forum.videohelp.com/topic350197.html#1845710 EDIT #1: testing :
EDIT #2, using redwudz link, via copy/paste:
EDIT #3, using vhelp link, via copy/paste:

| I just your pic, and it came out fine.
But, as you can see, over here, I just tried with both methods, and they still won't show up! Look at the first one. That's how they come up --> as a link. The second one just shows a blank image box. Note, I used the same tools and methods for producing the .png files. Been doing it the same way since I started posting it. Actually, I only have one software that saves to png files.. paintshop pro, with no fancy settins :lol: -vhelp 4671

| Let me re-trace my steps for a moment. Maybe you can make some sense of it all.
--> note, replace { } with [ ] A -- I copied and pasted some text to a blank post form. B -- I went in and added (at the top) an {img}vhelp.indian.jones.attod.1.png{/img} because I knew before hand what the file name would be and you can do this, legally. C -- offer one of my .png files for uploading D -- posted the topic After waiting for the .png file to upload, when the page finally refreshed with the latest post, I saw that the image did not show. But at the bottom was placed a full link to the image. It looked like this: {url=http://forum.videohelp.com/images/guides/p1845770/vhelp.indiana.jones.attod.1.png}vhelp.indiana.jones.attod.1.png{/url} E -- So, I went into Edit mode, to revise my post, and then proceeded to paste the above code in between the img /img tags. Well, no go either. I suspect vodoo is happening around here :x -vhelp 4672

Could be. I copied one of your pngs and I'll give it a try:
EDIT: It did take a long time to UL, longer than a jpeg. I used the 'img' button, then after browsing for the image, copied the full name of the png image. Pasted that after the 'img' header, then added the closing 'img' header. EDIT:EDIT: I posted the image above back into the Off Topic forum in place of the cat and it still worked using the same method. I thought the brackets might be causing a problem, but apparently not. :)

| Ok. I'm going to go through the laborous (dial-up) nonsense and post another pic.
I'll be using the same method recipe: A -- on my other XP computer (redwudz helped me build) save sequence (1 frame) to bmp w/ vdub B -- to my 1gig memory stick C -- pop it into my Windows 98 4-port usb gizmo D -- open it in painshop pro and save as .png -- (keep all the glory so others can dicect image if they want) E -- make another post and add it to be uploaded To keep things clean, I'll upload image to this forum and not the other one where actual problem occured. I'll go make coffee and be right back :lol: -vhelp 4674

| It's something to do with the .1. in the filename...I think. Probably the regex in the bbcode parser is killing it. It looks for lots of things before parsing a URL such as XSS attacks. It's probably hitting that one and deciding its not an image for whatever reason. :D
Use underscores or dashes instead.

| I think we are finally getting to the root cause of this image posting problems.
thecoleman, You may be right. I think you got something, there, though this one did not have a '1' in there ie, filename.1.png and so it went through w/out a hit w/out the '1' char. hmm.. I wonder if there are other oddities to look out for, as this may be the first time since this boards last upgrade/change, etc. -vhelp 4676
| thecoalman posted 2008 May 10 21:47 | ||
Not sure exactly why its hitting on the 1 but there are a lot of things it will kill for various reasons. Might even be bug.
| Ai Haibara posted 2008 May 11 00:18 | ||
| Could be expecting standard Windows filenames... or it could even be a restriction to prevent things like the double-extension malware from getting through or affecting the software/forum viewers somehow. Or something else. :) (Yes, that includes a possible bug. :D ) | ||

| Man !! what the hell is going on. I copied the exact image from this (above) to the thread
back over here because I thought it was all settled, but the darn thing is a blank !! Maybe (my theory) posting pics in OT is not allowed after all for non-mods ?? --> http://forum.videohelp.com/topic346120-30.html#1846050 redwudz, I think that the only reason the pic I posted on OT worked because it was yours. I only copied your pic and pasted in and it worked. Now, I past a pic I re-did in here with success and copy/paste it into OT, and it doesn't work :drool: -vhelp 4679

| It may be something with the connection. I did copy those photos to my 'pictures' file, then uploaded them from there, so they would have a different source.
I took your 1412 photo and inserted it below the non working one in http://forum.videohelp.com/topic346120-30.html#1846050 This from the text of the two:
(Space added between the first bracket and the 'img' to allow text display) So far, I haven't seen the presence or absence of periods or underscores, or numbers or brackets or much of anything else outside of blank spaces that cause a problem. I do notice that PNG images take much longer to load JPGs or GIFs. So I'm still confused. :(
| vhelp posted 2008 May 11 18:28 | ||
| I still don't get it either. I mean, the picture you see above, (indy's girl) is the one I was
trying to post. Because the link is perfectly sound, and displays on screen here, I copy pasted it into OT section, and it would not show. I just be you $1 dollar that if I copy and paste into a new post, here, this same link above or the (same one) I used in OT, it will show up, perfectly !! Be right back with the test.. -vhelp 4680

| Ok. I think I know what's going on. I think I know. I think I know what's going on..
A -- When you first post an image, the script generator auto-senses and strips out the original or full url string and maintains a crossreference to this link. It gives you the short-hand version of the link in between the [] tags at the bottom of the post. And, as long as you are in that post the crossreference will maintain consistancy with the original link. It's prob imbeded in the html of that post. B -- But, when you edit the post, to copy the same link, and then paste it into another post, the reference is lost and the short-hand version no longers works. Thus, you have to first find the original long-hand version of the posted image. So, in {B} you have to find the original long-hand version of the link to the image and then paste it inside the [ img] [ /img] brackets, BUT ? without the [ url] [ /url] tags. I'm going to try this now..

| SOLVED !!
It would seem that we have found the problem out. I tried it at the other topic and it worked. A -- new posts with new uploaded images = short-hand link to your posted image --> ie: vhelp.indiana.jones.fr.1412.png B -- new posts with pasted link from another post requires original full long-hand link. --> ie: vhelp.indiana.jones.fr.1412.png <--- will no longer work, but method below, will.. --> ie: http://forum.videohelp.com/images/guides/p1845829/vhelp.indiana.j ... r.1412.png Thanks for putting up with me and my wining on this issue. Problem SOLVED !! -vhelp 4683 |
