| Since I've been having problems audio sync issues with AVI.Net, I decided to download the trial version of Fairuse Wizard 2. I have a fairly fast computer, XPS Gen 5 3.2 ghz and can encode a movie in less than an hour using Nero Recode 2, and about 2.5 to 3 hrs using Avi.Net.... However, with Fairuse, the DVD ripping and indexing part alone is taking 7.5 hrs. I've read several tutorials that says that part should be about 10 to 30 minutes. At least the DVD option, I haven't tried ISO. There must be something wrong with that. I started at 2am, and I thought that estimation cannot be right, so to humor myself, I let it run. Sure enough, woke up at 9am and the thing as at about 90% completion. 7hrs to index and we're not even talking about the encoding yet.
Why would anyone use this program? Or is there something I don't understand, do I have conflicting programs installed that is causing this? | ||

What is your source dvd? Is it a commercial dvd ? If so are you using anydvd in the background or how do you remove the dvd encryption? Or is it a homemade dvdr? Or try AutoGK! | ||

Yes, it's commercial purchased from Frys. I use DVDFAB HD Decrypter, the latest version. Ripping to hard drive is a breeze, 15 minutes. Going through Fairuse Wizard, 7 hrs. Nope, not running Anydvd. Never needed it with DVDFAB to hard drive, this is required to use with Fairuse? | ||

| You could try rip to an iso with dvdfab decrypter and then open it fairuse wizard. If that wont work use something else. | ||

The .iso method worked perfectly. I guess I had a brain-fart moment. Fairuse Wizard itself does not defeat encryption, that's why it couldn't rip straight from dvd, so you do need anydvd if you want to do the dvd option. I'm curious about something... I use dvdshrink to convert my ripped vob files into an .iso image. I use "NO COMPRESSION." The reason is I want Fairuse to encode from the original source, and not from a compressed source. So my question is... Even though I use NO COMPRESSION, is it truly non-compressed when it turns into an .iso? I figure if you're converting to another format, even though you're not compressing, you must lose some quality due to the mere fact that you're changing format. | ||

| Yes, converting to or ripping to an ISO image does not compress or re-encode the VOB files, unless done in conjunction with an intentional "shrinking". If you specified No Compression then your VOB quality has not changed during the ISO creation.

| Its a digital copy from DVD to hard drive., so no conversion. If you compare the folder size on your hard drive you will notice it is anything up to 8.4gb .. the storage size of a dual layer pressed disc. The amount of storage required is the same on both DVd and Hard disc. It may be less than 8.4gb, or it may even be less than 4.7gibibytes (capacity of a SL dvd) |
