Extract subtitles that is "in" the .mkv-file ???

kulmagen posted 2008 Feb 06 13:03
Some hddvd or bluray-rips that gets released has subtitles embedded (?) in them.
At least that what the nfo's says.
But i use my Tvix-5100 to view these movies , and i need a program to extract those embedded subtitles.
So that i can rename them and get the subtitles to work.
The Tvix-machine can't read them , when their "packed" into the mkv-file.
Any tips ?

Can you tell if the subtitles are 'burned into' the video (an actual part of the video) or switchable (a separate subtitle stream in the video you can turn on and off)? If it's the latter, you should be able to use MKVExtractGUI as Baldrick suggested. (Be sure to install the proper version of mkvtoolnix to the same directory in which you installed MKVExtractGUI, however.)

Actually, I believe MKVs can have more formats of subtitles than just .ass. It was important to know whether the OP had soft or hard subs, though - but since kulmagen hasn't signed on since March 2008, I'm not sure s/he will see this post. :)
