Exporting VHS burn from IMOVIE HELP! | ||

| I found out that I can connect my VCR to my IMAC through my digital camera. I did this and recorded a movie onto IMOVIE. First off is this a bad idea? Is there other software I should use?
Secondly I have a movie on IMOVIE and I want to export it to something I can upload as a torrent but I have a million different choices to export. Each one I try gives me a really crappy version. Here are my choices: First off i can export it as a: AVI, MPEG-4, QUICKTIME, AIFF or AU (among a few other options i have never heard of) I assume that I should export it as an AVI since that's what I see on a lot of torrents. Now I have a bunch of different compression types: DV-PAL, DV/DVCPRO-NTSC, DVCPRO-PAL, DVCPRO50-NTSC, DVCPRO50-PAL Also what frame rate should I shoot for? Anyone have any experience doing this? | You don't want it in DV format because it's huge.
I would export to h264 video in a mov or mp4, see http://www.reely.com/darren/Guides/iMovie%20Export%20Guide/ If you want avi use then instead divx/xvid video, I'm not sure if it's possible directly in imovie. Try mpeg streamclip, handbrake or avidemux. And I'm moving you to our mac section. | ||

| You would first save it out as a Quicktime file from iMovie.
then you would open this in Quicktime Pro, and as Baldrick suggests, make either an h.264 encoded .mp4 file ( which many don't like) or a divix/xvid flavored .avi file (which is more universally accepted). With DIVX 6.5 or higher installed, you can export the QT file out of MpegStreamclip as well, or an all in one solution like VisualHub would also work. | ||
