Explain a child domain?
capman21 posted 2008 Sep 30 20:16
I am taking a network class, and could someone explain to me in simple idiot terms what is a child domain. Is it like not the "main" computer, but the second computer in a domain that has active x directory on it?

A "child domain" is a term used for Windows Server Active Directory / LDAP communication. Read this: http://www.w2k.vt.edu/whatchild.html -- that may or may not help. Instead of "Active Directory", sometimes search with the term "LDAP" instead. Or instead of "child, try "descendant" as the search term, when looking up this information online.

Sometimes "child domain" means the same as "subdomain". It all depends on the usage.

I have limited understanding of this, mostly because I only require limited working knowledge of it.
