Bought this on eBay. It came with a cd disk and poor instructions. Window shows a small, 2 part screen with green background. I had a NTSC composite RCA source of still video. All that ever appeared was a small format of large pixels sensitive to light from the camera. There is no method to change from the small format(default). The maker does not state the screen formats availiable?? All-in-all you should not buy this without more investigation.

As they like to tell me in Texas.
This ad seems to be all hat and no cattle. In other words urban cowboy.

"Supports high resolution still image capture at 640 x 480 "

In Australia, standard definition is 768x576. This device may make 352x288 real time but they don't want to say.

We could go on to deconstruct this thing. Get something better.

I just bought one of these EasyCAP devices off ebay and the the install CD gave errors and wouldn't load. I followed your link to the manufacturer and downloaded the Vista64 drivers for OTH001. After expanding the WinRAR file Vista still couldn't find the drivers.
Any ideas?

I see this device on Ebay a lot and wonder if the conversion from VHS (etc) to MPEG2 (DVD standard) is done by software or the hardware. How real time is this device really?
I've read that the Dazzle DVD USB device has the hardware onboard that converts the material which in my opinion sounds like a better option but I can be totally wrong here.

Hi, I guess I'm one of the few who got great results with this Easycap device. I installed the drivers, plugged it in, and everything worked out of the box with an IBM T42 laptop. After some testing, I found that with Ulead Videostudio and the 1.70 gHz Pentium M processor I was able to encode to 6000 kbps (constant bitrate), which gave really nice image quality! However, I didn't try to record with the Easycap audio plug. I used the sound card instead.

Hi Jeepee2. Could you (or anyone else that knows??) please tell me exactly how you "encode to 6000 kbps (constant bitrate), which gave really nice image quality"

I've got the EasyCAP device too, and after pulling my hair out for hours due to their pathetic lack of instructions about video capture (I'm capturing VHS tapes off VCR), I figured it out. But, can only produce average quality footage, even though the tapes themselves still look good on the TV.

So far only managed to capture in WMV file. Doesn't look good on TV screen after I burn DVD. I converted the files to MPG and made another disc, but doesn't look any different.
My previous attempts with AVI and anything else seemed to either give me a final file with sound but no picture, or vice versa.
Anyway, I've got sound and pics now. Just need to improve the pic quality!

Thanks for any help

Dear kokky
You need to change your Sound device as the USB Audio Device (Name may be different in DC60 DC60+ ) As default you have your sound card device selected in there. If it is not allowed to change you need to exit the sound card control icon in your system tray (Bottom right hand corner of the desktop near to the system clock)
Right Click on my computer>>Properties>>Hardware>>Device Manger
Make sure you have “easycap” under sound, Video and game controllers
(If there is a yellow mark on easy cap or under USB devices >>right click on that and click on uninstall then click on action at the top and say scan for hardware changes.)

go to start>>control panel>>sound and audio devices
Make sure easycap USB is selected under sound recording
Then Go to programs>>Windows Movie Maker
Click on Capture from video device
Select easycap as your audio device>>next>>next>>next>>start capture
Now you can enjoy the DVD Quality capture!

The version of Ulead you have is probably a crippled trial version and you would be better off with the full version.

And welcome to our forums. :)

Dear Snj08,
You are right! I really appreciate your posting about easycap dc60+, Because of your post I bought it from ebay and it works great, more than I expected. I converted all of my VHS Library (near 200) VHS tapes in to DVDs and cleaned my room. Now I got them on disks and no need to worry about fungus or damages. They provided the genuine licence for VideoGlide (www.echofx.com/videoglide.html) which is valued at 29.90$. Thanks heaps, mate.

I bought this unit and WOW its the best thing ever. When you use it you must make sure that all the settings are set correctly.
In order to get excellent results you need to set DVD picture quality in the captue options in ULEAD video studio SE that comes with easy cap. Make sure that you set the correct screen resolution also. At first I had all the audio settings wrongly set, and man you get some very scratchy audio happenning.
You have to set the easy cap as the default recording device in order for it to work. My audio is crystal clear and work perfectly now. The picture quality is excellent and I love the settings for sharpness contrast and saturation that can be set before capture. Although not essential to do this ULEAD videostudio SE will allow for these adjustments in the editing field.

To me this little handsome unit is the best "capture Card" and I just love the size of it and its easily transportable as well. Well worth the price of ebay in fact its a real give away for the software alone is worth a couple hundred dollars in itself. Its absolutely fantastic! Love it. Serial number for Ulead is stamped on the paper cover of the cd. Simple as!

i would stay away from units like both the dazzle & easycap, try one of the canopus dvc's nothing beats them!

stevesgrabber posted 2008 Jun 28 05:49
I got this unit just a couple of days ago and have had some issues with audio but this was because i had my default recording function set to front microphone as being the reason. Well let me tell you al no matter what anyone says its simply a brilliant little unit. I used it all day today and it performs absolutely magnificent. I am very pleased with it and over whelmed by the price of it. It actually cost me a massive $17.99 Australian dollars (lol) but with postage it totalled a grand total of $31.00 Australian. They sent it promptly and thanks to those in China for making this available.

So those of you who have soopa doopa units well thats fair enough and that sounds cool but how can one lose on buying this fantastic Easy Capture device as a portable take anywhere unit. I have a laptop also thats just dying to meet this grabber. In fact I reckon this should sell for $300.00 as its worth it with the bundled software you get with it. The serial is stamped on the cd wallet. That in itself is professional ULEAD videostudio SE. Ive also got ulead video studio PLUS on my computer and that has the added benefit of saving your work using the smart package option. SE doesnt have this but with care your files are easily archived.

So for any of you that feel this is to good to be true well then that is a fact. You really cant lose a fairdinkum bargain. Ive used it and let me tell you its honky dory mate! Just love it. What a capture card. Portable and all. No two if's about it.

I just got the EasyCap this morning in the mail, and I'm frusterated. I installed all the drivers and Ulead, but when I try to capture from it (plugged into my xbox 360) there's just lines where the video is. And if I say capture video just for fun, it says there's no signal or something along those lines. Is mine defective? Has anyone else had these problems?

stevesgrabber posted 2008 Jul 04 05:23
Hi morilori
Sorry I couldnt get back earlier but Ive been unwell. Anyway when you plug the easycap into your usb you must firstly has usb 2.0 connectivity on your computer. In the control panel go to the SOUND icon double click it. Under recording tab make sure you have line usb audio ticked as the default device. In this digram Ive got below the Aux Realtec checked as default recording device. This will not work for easycap. Make the line usb as default click it and select make default'''''

Unfortunately each time you remove the easycap device and then use it later you must do this procedure again. Remember this is a plug and play device and when removed from the computer the default sond device will automatically revert to another setting. Once this is done open video studio SE and select the CAPTURE function. Select the capture video as shown in my graphic'

Make sure you have source easycap video adapter as selected. Also format should be DVD quality which makes it as clear as day. Please make sure when you install videostudio SE select the PAL or NTSC working environment for your countries signalling.

Click options and set the following below.

Make sure you have line usb selected in the active device panel and check (tick) the preview audio with usb device selected which will allow you to listen to the realtime recording from your source. Each time you start a new project these setting may need to be checked again. Also i've included some instructions and trouble shooting tips.

I really love this unit. If it doesnt work for others its not the unit but simply their computer settings
If this fails then you have an issue with your computer and or sound card settings. Mine works fine. I hope it works for you. Once it does you will be portable if you have a laptop and with a desktop its the best capture device without rear connections and messy cables.

Hope it will work for its simply a smart device. There are some youtube videos on this grabber that may also help.

Goodluck all.

stevesgrabber posted 2008 Jul 04 05:36
I just plugged my playstation into the easy
cap device and its capturing the screen from it with no problems. Really I must be lucky or have an excellent computer because it works great. I just said to my wife that so many have problems with it and Ive got not one. For once things are honky dory,

Heres a sample Please note I used low resolution setting to keep file size small.

http://s79.photobucket.com/albums/j134/fordfuntastic/?action=view ... ation1.flv

To those who have voted the unit as bad or something to that fashion its your computer. Simple as that. I have a new computer and it should work on Vista ultimate platform. If you have vista then have you ever heard of UAC controls? Play around there and all your issues are solved for many hassles and check regedit. With XP try your firewall its a culpret for many a bad days as is msconfig and settings. Administrator, Administrator run as Administrator at exe file wow you will be in control.

morilori posted 2008 Jul 04 08:06
Hi stevesgrabber,
Thanks so much for the detailed help but.... no luck!! I think perhaps the fact that i am using Hi8 may be the prob??
I should have told you (sorry) that i have to run an adapator to the ulead plug ( s-video) to my camera, as they are different - so this leaves the 3 coloured leads unattached. Would the fact that the adio cable is not connected to my camera be the issue? Im sounding really dense here arent i? In the reply that you posted about changing the active source, i can do that, but because i have to select Video s-video as the input i then dont have the option of setting the master volume which seems to be available if i set the input as composite - but then i get no picture!!
AArgh, so frustrating. Have i confused you too much?

stevesgrabber posted 2008 Jul 05 04:41
Hi Folks,
Im not sure about the s video plug but the thing should work considering it has a s video connector available. As for HI 8 Im not to sure about that when using an adapter socket. But if the adapter socket is to attach to an svideo set up then it should work.

There are so many variables involved when it comes to getting things to work and most times they are compatability issues or a simple check box that hasnt been ticked or un ticked on a computer.

I think Morilori if you have the correct adapter plug and your using s video the white and red would not affect the sound problem you are having. For all the others who are finding it difficult to get the easy cap to work it is definately a setting in your computer and not the device as being the culprit.

Morilori why dont you get a DVD recorder that has front connections such as s video and rca sockets? I have a DVD recorder also and use this to transfer old tape to a dvd-RW and then import this into videostudio. Its really easy from there to edit and compose your cherished memories. For anyone wanting to get analogue to their computer thats the way to go.

Can someone tell me why do you want to use easyCAP to hook up a playstation or other game console? Im not sure of the intent.

Anyway have fun. When things dont work at first then "endeavour to perservere" and dont give up.

stevesgrabber posted 2008 Jul 14 06:20
Ok Morilori you need a rest........but now its time to get ready for action. If your running vista then do this. Un install video studio and remove the EASY cap driver. Now go to your control panel and go to user account and turn off the user account control. Dont restart the computer for now. Go to the security centre and turn off the firewall.

Now restart your computer. It will come up with some sort of warning that your security is vulnerable Ignore this but please be off the internet for the next ten minutes or so.

Now install your EasyCAP device and the associated videostudio SE software that came with it. Once its installed the re establish the user account control to ON and turn on the firewall again. Restart the computer and it should work.

If you have XP pro then uninstall videostudio and easyCAP driver. Turn off the firewall setting and disable anti virus software .
Place the easyCAP cd inti the rom tray and follow the prompts. Install the software and the driver. Dont restart the computer. Go to my computer and then to program files and locate the ULEAD folder. Find the vs application or the .exe file mine was close to the bottom of the ulead videostudio SE folder. Right click on this and the RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR.

This will start the videostudioSE. Restart the computer and turn on the firewall and all virus software. IT WILL WORK!!!!

sdo james why are you using videoglide and not videostudioSE? Check this out below there are some issues under troubleshooting for quicktime.

Also your files may have been placed in another folder such as the nominated captures under your settings. I am not sure about videoglide as this did not come with easyCAP.
Mine works under capture for Pinnacle Ultimate - Moviestudio - Nero, videostudio SE and 11PLUS , ArcSOFT Showbiz, without any problems. Ive tested them all.

Not sure if this can help but if you follow the above steps I gave to morilori you should have no issues with easyCAP and videostudioSE, but videoglide im not sure about!!!!

I bought mine from eBay and setting up the hardware was no problem - problems arose when I tried to convert some VHS (Pal) tapes. The intention is to transfer them to DVD but using the DVD format in Capture Mode the system stops with the message "Unexplained/Unspecified Error" - usually about 3 minutes into the capture. I changed the mode to MPEG which captures without problems BUT the recorded video is jumpy and doesn't play smoothly. I am loathe to change resolution or other settings until I know more about waht the consequences are - has anyone else suffered from this problem? I haven't yet burnt the output to DVD until I can fix this problem. Any help will be appreciated.

Install the driver by going to the device manager Right click on My Computer icon frome desctop and select properties. Go to device manager and under the sound and video etc click the + next to it. Right click on easycap device and reinstall the drive by going to the driver tab and install the driver again. This should resolve the issues

then check device is working correctly

go to the driver tab and reinstall the driver even though it may say its working correctly so as to ensure no conflicts

make sure you have the cd that came with easygrabber in the rom drive

then go to.......

select have disc

This should now give you the correct driver installation,,,,all systems should go,,,,,,

My EasyCap device is the best thing Ive bought for next to nothing. I also purchase a HDTV usb dongle from E bay with remote for $22.00 + $10.00 or so postage from China. It allows you to watch HDefinition TV on a laptop or desktop and record High Def TV and a pre program recording feature. All I can say is a big WOW! Its fantastic! Love this also. It came packaged similar to the EasyCAP USB device. Well worth it. It also has Blaze DTV player that comes with it. If you intend on getting one Ill give you a great tip that I established. When installing use a Good antenna not the antenna that comes with it. It may be ok to use outside with a laptop but this antenna that comes with it is in my opinion "crap" that spoils this magnificent device

I don't want to put them on a disc but rather on to an external drive so I can play them on my PHillips that has a USB port and plays DIVX. Will this easycap unit do the trick. What formats does it record to? Will it have a problem recognizing Beta? How about macrovision problems? Any and all answers will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

stevesgrabber posted 2008 Sep 21 05:46
Macrovision is copyright so I dont think EasyCAP will remove this type of protection. As far as beta goe I need someone else to answer this because Im not sure.

By the way I have had a private message from a member who has had problems with the EasyCAP. It works now for this person. One thing I took for granted that all of you are doing is YOU MUST PUT THE DEVICE DIRECTLY INTO A USB 2.0 INPUT FOR IT TO WORK! If you use a usb hub or an extension usb chord for some reason It just does'nt like that. So please note that you must have a USB 2.0 input on the front of the computer. If you have this only on the back of your computer then its going to be a hassle to plug it in there time and time again unless of course you leave it there permanantly.

REMEMBER NO USB CHORDS OR EXTENSIONS!

I have been capturing in mpeg2 format, converting to avi with win avi, converting to dvd with win avi, and encoding with nero8.

P.S for old VHS recorders with only mono sound output an RCA splitter will enable you to have stereo sound. Theyre about $2 from most electronics shops.

I was blown away by this unit too... though my application of it is a bit unusual. My partner and I do live video mixing/jockeying (VJing) and we wanted to equip our Windows XP PC with analog inputs which we could then mix between, along with samples on the computer's HDD and USB and firewire cameras. THey work fine in parallel, the picture quality is great for streaming live, and they were dirt cheap on eBay. My last one cost me AUD$18 including shipping.

For anyone interested, we do our video mixing with a NuVJ unit and software from NuMark and working with 3 EasyCaps, the possibilities for mixing sources of video are tremendous. Check out the NuVJ here: http://nuvj.arkaos.net/

Check out our signature link if you're interested in the sound of our work... and hats off for the EasyCAP. :D

I recently purchased this easycap thing as a part of the MAGIX Rescue Your Videotapes! package.

Everything seemed to be working, I connected it, video and audio were working, recorded a 100 min VHS, but on the end product the sound gradually drifted out of sync with the video.

What I don't understand is why "easycap" doesn't appear under my "video driver" when I'm on the recording screen, just "USB 2861 (USB DShow)*". I contacted support and they said it should say "easycap", and he told me to reinstall in safe mode etc but that didn't help. Does anyone have any ideas ? :S please !!

Thanks !

Hi

I have also been planning on buying this device and would like to ask you two questions concerning it.

Does it work in Windows Media Center? Vista or XP, have you tried either?

Have anyone tried making it work in Linux? I hear http://www.unicap-imaging.org/download.htm may work for old cards.

To people having problems with installing drivers this could be your issue:
http://www.fixya.com/support/t657881-easy_cap_cannot_install_easycap_driver

To support other people with problems I found two blog posts concerning this and mirrored them. You can also get the official drivers there (if you somehow loose the CD). http://nirklars.kilu.de/easycap/ open one of the two different html files there for mirrors of the blog instructions!

If you have tested the support of this product, please comment here or send me an Email quickly to me!

Kind Regards

Hi! I have been reading here for awhile to troubleshoot my easycap. My problem comes in getting sound. I have installed as per directions with firewalls and virus protection off. I have uninstalled and installed from device manager. It comes up under imaging device as STK 1160#2. However, under sound, video and game controllers it appears only as USB Audio device.
To try and give as much information as needed for someone to help me, this is what else I have done. I had an old gateway with only 40GB, 256 ram when it was new. With kids that was soon to maybe 20GB and the USB was not 2.0. When I first hooked this all up it crashed my computer. Reading here I decided I needed to get a new system, but had limited funds. So went to Wal-mart and got this Emachine EL 1200-05w that has 160GB, 1 GB ram and USB 2.0 if I understand all of that correctly. I am trying to take my analog video off of my Sony TRV138 and put them on dvd. I bought another Sony off of ebay awhile back, a TRV280 to do all of this, but low and behold I buy one of the only digital camcorders that cant play analog!
I only have the Ulead VideoStudio 8.0 that came with the easycap or Windows Movie Maker on my computer available to do this project. Both I can get an image but no sound. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. And I apologize in advance if this seems so simple to others and so complicated to me. I am willing to put in the time and effort to succeed! Thanks for listening.

I was wondering if anyone has tried to use this device along with a camcorder, as a webcam to doing video conferencing? I have a cheap aiptek hd camcorder and i would like to use it as a webcam, I have a capture card, but it is AGP, and my new computer doesn't have an AGP slot, so I figured I could pick up one of these capture devices cheap off ebay (like $15 total).

So, does anyone know if it is possible to use this in something like Windows Live Messenger as a webcam?

I bought Easycap a couple of days ago and having tried just about every option and every tip I can find Googling I'm at a loss. Sound is fine but video is coming out black and white with some sort of interference.

I'm trying to convert my old VCRs into digital before they all die. I've tried it on two different VCRs and it's the same. I'm connecting via Scart into the S-Video cable. Any help or tips will be very much appreciated. :)

Mumbler posted 2008 Dec 18 17:23
I have the same thing as Blighty - a black and white picture. I've looked around and tried various settings and re-installed drivers (with anti-virus etc off). One thing I have noticed that seems to be different to all the screen shots I've seen - is that when in the Ulead app, looking at capture properties I see that signal detected is 0 and lines detected is 0. Blighty is this what you get?

Screenshots I see of everyone else, has 1 and something like 476 respectively.

My video source is the Scart socket on the back of a Sky box. The Scart connector is then hardwired to S-video and left & right audio (connector bought from Maplin) and these plug into the EasyCap. Finally, I'm running Vista 32.
The problem I guess, is signal of 0 and lines detected of 0. I just get a black and white image.Anyone have any ideas of what's causing this?

Oh this must be very frustrating situation for the majority of you. I guess for once I may be lucky with this capture device. It works for me but obviously poses problems to others. It virtually impossible to rectify this owing to the many conflicts that a computer may present. Also service packs are plentiful and these may or not compound its working. If your having black and white video could this be NTSC and PAL issues due to what part of the world your in? Im in Australia and I have mine set to pal obviously. On my television if I select NTSC I get a black and white picture responce.
Ive given here in this thread the best of my knowledge and cant improve more than that. I would love to resolve each and everyones issue but for example I have differerent software in use. I guess its up to you to finally categorize it as being "rubbish" and does not work for you. At the end of the day its not a huge outlay to buy it and you may be lucky enough to be like me and just love it. For what its worth its the value of two packs of cigarrettes and for me Id rather risk that value on it than the chance for lung cancer.

Its not the end of the world to go and buy it at that price. I would be really peeved if I spent over $150.00 and have these issues your having. I would like for all that it works because it really is a nifty unit. Its amazing what a usb device so small can do. I have just recently got usb broadband modem no bigger than this and it to amazes me in comparison to huge adsl2 modems. I can go outside travel (within signal range) and browse the internet on a laptop. Anyway sorry I could not get back to this forum earlies but Ive been really crook. I just wish my health would be as successful as the easycap device has been for me.

I use Videostudio 10 as editor and recording software

This is a big trouble to work a bit , my audio throu easycap cuts the sounds bites and try all alternatives but works best when i set the windows master audio volume level to 3/4 max and the wave to half level .

Then the best video recording setting i tested with is selection to dvd - for Pal 352 x 288 or NTSC 352 x 240 here i use it with 192 Kbps audio . and 100 % best recording quality

When you dont hear audio then check the options - Sourch - check the USB sourch and set also to usb audio interface . If you recording a video always check if these settings still there because it resets manny times for me and thats not what i want .

Good luck !

Input is set to composite even with the svideo lead attatched as well.

I'm having a problem capturing audio with the video I'm getting from a VCR using Easycap. I have a VCR hooked up to my laptop via the Easycap using the USB extension cord that came with it, with the red/white/yellow cables. The picture is displaying and capturing fine, but I am not hearing or capturing any audio.
I was never able to install the drivers that came with the Easycap on the CD. It would go through the installation process and then once I plugged in the Easycap it would try to install and search for drivers again and even when directed to the CD it would never successfully install. I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit and by searching around I downloaded drivers that said they were Vista64bit from http://nirklars.kilu.de/easycap/. After manually directing the installation to the directory I extracted those drivers too, is the only way I was able to get the message that the device was fully installed.
However, nowhere on my system or in Ulead does it list the device as easycap. Under sound video and game controllers there are 2 listings I believe are the Easycap, STK1160 ATV BDA and USB Audio Interface. When I go to capture properties in Ulead I have no option of selecting an input source, to even choose composite. And the only audio option is Digital Audio Interface USB AU and the rest is cut off. Right before I capture I get a message that the input signal is weak or not fully working and if I'd like to continue anyway.
Under sound device properties, digital audio interface is listed under the recording tab, and is listed as enabled and working. Under advanced there's 2 options under exclusive mode that say "allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" and "give exclusive mode applications priority". They had both been checked, and I tried capturing again with the first one unchecked but still got no audio.
I've tried plugging the Easycap directly into the VCR with no extension cord and plugging into a different VCR and still get the same "input signal is weak and unclear" message right before I capture. I thought it might be because both VCRs are DVD/VCR combos but I also plugged Easycap into a camcorder and it was the same issue, video looks good and is capturing fine but I'm getting no audio. Anybody?
UPDATE
I was able to do a capture in WMV format on an XP machine that Easycap works on with the CD drivers. Using MPEG capture I got an unspecified error message twice, so that's why I used WMV, but the problem is the video is not smooth. It's watchable but it didn't capture and doesn't play normally as if I was watching a VHS, but more like a poorly streamed internet video, its not smooth. Still need help.

Hi sorry I could not get back to you sooner but I rarely visit here. This device posses lots of problems to many people but for me it works fine. If you have tried all the tips ive posted then I am at a loss to provide more information, You say that you use the extension cable that came with the easy cap device.....Dont! For some reason it plays up and does not work properly. You are better off connecting it directly to you computer without any usb extension cables.

Try and install the driver by disabling your anti-virus software and the User account control. You can turn these back on later after you have installed the software and drivers. If your using windows vista then right click on the intallation CD and run as administrator. This fixes many other problems to do with software installation. The device can only work provided the drivers have installed correctly. Failing that it plain and simply will not work.

I cant ellaborate anymore on what to do because computers have so many settings that if one little check box is either clicked or not that this alone can cause heaps of problems that no one can fore see. I hope you can get it to work but dont use the extension chord during the installation procedure and or capturing stage. Yes I know it comes with one but it does not work with it. I found that out after trial and error.

Steve,
You seem to know quite a bit about this capture card. Two problems to see if you can comment on:

#1. I am trying to convert NTSC home video to computer to put on DVD. The home video was recorded in the U.S. and now I am in NZ. When I try to send it through a NZ video player (which will play both NTSC and PAL) it only comes in in black and white and I can't get the color. Am I going to have to use a U.S. video player in order to get the color? Any help on any of this would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

#2. I have tried to copy some old VHS movies I had purchased on to DVD. The first was ELF and it worked fine because the capture file fit on a single 4.7DVD. When I tried to capture Spiderman and Spiderman 2 both of these movies are about 2 hours and when I tried to burn to DVD I had to reduce quality so it would fit on DVD but then the Audio was not in sync with the Video so I have people's mouths moving and the talking coming later. Anyway to synchronize the video and audio when reducing size of video? I tried to capture as MPEG instead of DVD and it would cut off everytime at 13.5 minutes into any video. At a loss as to what to try next.

Thanks for any input.

Curtis

I've not tried the VISTA drivers yet but these Gizmo's do seem very unstable.

Originally I tired to use my usual software ( Intervideo WinDVD Ceator ) and the computer just froze each time I tried to capture

After reading some posts on this forum topic I tried Wnidows Movie Maker, some sucess at least I could capture without a lock up but the video was distorted with horizantal lines.

This evening I unistalled the drivers, disabled the firewall and re installed the drivers once more, Sucess !! Using Movie Maker I was able to capture but only in composite, in S-Video all I got was a black screen so with the Firewall now enabled I re installed the drivers 'over the top' on the original installation to see if thsi effected the S-Video. It didn't and once again I had horizontal lines on my captured video in Movie Maker in composite mode, BUT, seeing if there were any effects on Intervideo that now captures fine. Obiously there is some sort of clash with some other file or software and the installation of the drivers seems somewhat ' finerkey'.

This may not help anyone but I guess the morale of the story is , 'stick with it' they do seem to work.

I'll try the VISTA machine tomorrow and report back if anyone is interested.

Hi,

I just bought EasyCap but when the product came the stick and packaging said "Video Creator". I guess this is the same product as the stick looks identical and came with Ulead and all the screen shots in this trace look similar.

My issue is that connecting from MiniDV camcorder works a treat. This is done from the the av and headphones out to the Easycap using the red, yellow and white i.e. not the s-video. When I connect from VHS player nothing happens. I have a scart out the I connect all 4 cables to and then run them to the 4 Easycap cables. I get nothing. I did a scart to scart to the TV and it works so I know the output is there.

Any ideas anyone? There's 3 hours of my new born peeing and tearing the house to pieces if you can help :D

Frankc posted 2009 Aug 12 04:27
Try either...
a different cable or
go from VHS to MiniDV to computer.

Since installing the drivers that were on the CD with my Firewall disabled the device has worked fine using Compsite Video but using SVideo it freezes the computer after a few seconds of capture. A few days ago I bought another SVideo cable to have as a spare, on trying it the capture device does not freeze and captures fine. I then tried the old cable, same problem, computer freezes, I have used the same 'older' cable to go from MiniDV to stand alone DVD recorder and it works fine so it's anyones guess what the problem is here. Computer runs on XP.

The moral of the story, Don't give up these devices , they DO work. If one cable dosen't work try another.

Users, please keep leaving feedback, once your problem is solved don't just go away stay and help others

The reason people do not follow up post is people become discouraged that this device does not work properly or as well as advertised.

I spent better part of 2 weeks to find the solution to this USB device. I must read most all online forums with compliance problems, including eBay14-page complaints, where most of this device is sold from China. Googling with terms like “Easycap“, “Easycap driver“, “Easycap dc60” reveal numbers of referenced entries but don’t waste your time at least on Vista X64 like I did. It will not work. It cost about AUD13-00 including freight and the only problem was that I couldn't get it to work in Vista. I realise from reading this thread that the problem is caused by my using Vista 64 bit. I run a dual boot system with XP and it performs flawlessly there. It did take me a while to get the sound up and running but the video came through perfectly first go. It is a matter of opening up all of the many tabs within the Ulead creens and having a go at all of them. I only use the yellow component in setting for the video and connect the red and white audio leads to the "input" jack on my sound card. You then have to tell Ulead to use that input for the sound. I have since switched to Windows Movie Maker to capture the video as it's a lot simpler and immediately recognises the EasyCap Dongle. I then use Ulead for any editing.
This unit has to be the bargain of the year and I only bought it as a last ditch effort, expecting nothing, but the price was so small that if I got nothing in return it wouldn't matter. Did I get a surprise ! the address of where I got mine is in the thread below.

Here are the various tabs and settings that I use in Windows Movie Maker which is standard in Vista and XP. Took me ages to figure it all out, but stick to these settings and you'll capture VHS tapes with no discernible loss of resolution. It calls the EasyCap a Syntek STK1160.

Apologies to the moderators of this site but the only way I was able to post all six screens was to insert the first one and then use the "edit" tab to add the second, then "edit" again etc, to add the rest. My first attempt to add all six only showed the first one. Apologies if this has played havoc anywhere. The "preview" button doesn't seem to work when you add an image.

Thank you Thank you,
It worked but I have no sound.
Any ideas why this is????

fredhoward posted 2009 Aug 31 08:18
Here's the page and the two tabs where I managed to get my sound up and running. I didn't use the two inputs on the EasyCap (red and white leads) to capture the sound. I plugged them both into the "input" socket on the back of my sound card. If you use the two on the EasyCap you have to click on the USB option at this point. Try all of them and you will find the right one.

Thank you, thank you! Thanks to all your fantastic advice I have now completely digitised my old 8mm videos (there were lots of them). My technical knowledge was zero before I discovered this forum. Easycap is great for home video. I'm having a great time creating dvd memory gifts for the family.
Thanks again for your great work and patience.

Considering getting this device. It seems the successful users are using it for PAL. Anyone get it to work with NTSC? Will it work on VHS copy protected movies? Is the DC60+ the same unit as the STK 1190?

I agree with your key assessment; the crux issue is with NTSC. I know this Chinese made EZ Capture item sold on eBay do not work with X64 Vista OS. On the other hand, XP is full of iffy compatibility issues with capturing programs.

After wasting hours of research and tweaking with this device, I purchased a similar inexpensive video capturing device called USB2.0 Video Grabber with Audio. It has worked [s:1be8ad4ee4]flawlessly[/s:1be8ad4ee4] for me on NTSC video and X64 Vista. Although it does not come with outdated Ulead Video Editor, it has it’s own full resolution MPEG-2 encoder at 6Mbps and MPEG4/WMV/VCD output ability at a lower resolution.

I [s:1be8ad4ee4]recommend[/s:1be8ad4ee4] from my experience this device over junk item sold on eBay if you are using NTSC. Use your own judgement; it's still a caveat!

Edit(9-20-09): I had to reinstall driver 3X because of program start up problem. Once reinstalled it has worked fine.

Hi all
I purchased the easycap video grabber from e bay and am having a problem. It works with my DVD player as it has 2 audio inputs and a video input on the back. As soon as I connect it via a scart addaptor I get a message "NO INPUT SIGNAL OR SIGNAL IS UNCLEAR" My video player only has 2 audio conections at the back, and when they are plugged in again it records sound only ok. When I connect to the scart addaptor in the back of the video I get the same message as above. I have tried 2 seperate scart addaptors but no change. Can anyone help with this

hi I know this is a long shot - but I am in desperate need of a product key. Does anybody know where I can find one for Ulead VideoStudio Se? - the software that comes with the easycap?

I cannot for the life of me find it - i have a feeling my puppy got ahold it and decided it was dessert.

thanks so much for the help!

Your serial key should be on your CD Wallet if you still have it.

If you are using UleadVideoStudio be sure to check "Video S-Video" under "Video Input source" which can be find by clicking Options>Video and Audio Capture Property Settings

In XP SP2 it went very easy with no problems, but on XP SP3 it's another story.
After few hours I've succesfully managed to play with VLC or cap with VirtualDub.
I had to restore Windows a couple of times to few days earlier, reinstalling drivers, crashes etc. In the end I used the driver of wich Frankc provided, http://escalalibre.com/descargas/AllEasyCAPDriversIFound.rar There are few folders in this ZIP archive, I used syntekSTK1160.

Before I installed that driver, I again restored the system few days earlier. However it works with VLC, VirtualDub...It doesn't want to work with Windows Moviemaker, it freezes (when I click on the Easycap). In SP2 I didn't had problems with Moviemaker.

The quality is excellent, but there is lag (it's a software problem).
The cheapest place you can buy this, is from Dealextreem (for 11 dollars/7euros).

Im having trouble getting audio in Windows Vista SP2 and with Windows 7.

I have installed the drivers with antivirus/firewall turned off, I've tried to install with XP SP1 compatability but never does it install "easycap usb audio device" under Sound, Video and Game controllers in Device Manager. Instead, there's "Audio USB Device"

I may have to get access to a PC with Windows XP in the mean time but forgive me for not having a solution for others with a similar problem as mine. I've been working on it all day but nothing.

Does anyone else have any suggestions?

If you have 64 bit maybe will this work?

Here http://www.techsupportforum.com/hardware-support/driver-support/3 ... s-7-a.html
It says that all Vista drivers worked on Windows 7

I have x32 system. I definetly have the correct cables for audio plug in, I've checked and double checked.

Only difference I can spot between a picture uploaded by snj08:

and my set up is it doesn't say "easycap usb audio device" it says "microphone usb audio device" and this is from the driver and not my microphone.

I've heard someone having better luck using Ulead Video Studio 11 instead of the one that comes with it, I shall try it in the morning.

Good night

I have had no success using Easycap with a number of Ulead products but have had no problems using the device with Winvdr Pro, Amcap and Stoik. For reasons I don't understand, audio is garbled using 44kps on my computer so I have set audio capture in all three products at 32kps mono. Encoding the produced avi file to mpg in TMPGENC produces satisfactory sound at 44 kps stereo.

Check out the Tools section [search for capture devices] where all three products are displayed.

The following settings for Amcap work for me:

Devices = easycap, usb audio device
Capture = setup capture to unallocated files [insert directory where you want to save file]. tick capture audio
and video box
Options = audio format 32kps [unless 44kps works for you], video catpure pin 352x288 [for Pal]

The following settings for Winvdr work for me:

driver = wdm driver mode [new], easycap
audio mode = directx
resolution frame rate = 352x288 [for pal], yuy2, 25 [for pal]
audio video source = video composite
destination file format - avi
avi file form = divx hq, 32 kps mono [44kps may work for you]
mixer - ensure line-in is displayed and ticked

These settings work on XP.

There seems to be several models available:
1."EasyCap DC60" which includes VideoStudio 8 SE and only works on 2000 or XP SP2.
Under system requirements it will say "CPU: Pentium III 800 or above". The package has a picture of a laptop.
2."EasyCap DC60+" which includes VideoStudio 10 SE and works on XP SP3 or Vista(32bit).
Under system requirements it will say "CPU: Pentium 4". The package has a picture of a camcorder.
3."EzCap116" which includes Showbiz 2 and works on XP or Vista(32 or 64bit).
Under system requirements it will say "CPU: Pentium 4". This comes in a black and white box.

"EzCap" is the new(legit) name and comes in several models: http://www.szforwardvideo.com/product/product_List_6.html
Go to their support page for drivers: http://www.szforwardvideo.com/support/index.html

I have the DC60+ and installing the drivers was easy, I inserted the CD and plugged the device into my USB port. When the device prompt came up I let Windows find the drivers. I first tried to get it to work in WMM but it defaulted to PAL, I had to install VideoStudio to get it setup for NTSC. The serial number for VS is on the CD and it's called SN.TXT.
This video will show you how to setup the EasyCap:

I've just discovered that there are some issues with Realtek onboard audio chips.

Source

I'd like you to take a look at the below image and hopefully someone may be able to tell me if I'm correct in saying that it's not working because it says that my "USB Audio Device" is "Microphone" and not "Line-In"?

MOVIEGEEK posted 2009 Nov 15 13:02
kwhyles,
I have a Realtek soundcard on my laptop and I'm not having any issues with XP, if you are using 7 then EasyCap DC60(+) won't work.
You need to buy the EzCap156: http://www.szforwardvideo.com/product/Pro_6_6.html

BTW: VideoStudio 8 or 10 SE will not work with the 64 bit version of Vista or 7.

kwhyles posted 2009 Nov 16 03:05
This is the one I brought.

I cant see which one it is, I shall check the manual when I get back from work.
I'm running Windows 7 32bit and I also have Windows XP SP2 32bit (running on VMWare - this could be a problem.)
I may have to try a clean install of Windows XP.

Thank you for your quick reply.

From eBay
:
Ulead Video Studio 8.0 SE

That's the EasyCap 60, it won't work on Vista or 7. Send it back.

I've reformatted my computer with Windows XP Sp2 yet still I have the audio problems.

----

I cant believe it, I decided to think differently, checked the audio cable Camera > TV and still no audio, final conclusion = my cable is either broken or incompatible with this camera.

I'm using a composite cable instead now, everything seems to be fine!

I cant believe the hell I've gone through to try and get this to work, and I had the cable on me all the time.

I don't know much when it comes to video, so I appreciate everyones help :D
