looking for help on buying a player that when you put in pause it does not switch off after
a limited amount of time

Why do you need a unit that won't turn off/release pause after a short period of time? That's normally a bad idea - most units don't let you leave them in pause for a long time because it can cause damage to the unit.

Why not hit Stop instead, and just hit Play again when you're ready to resume? That's less likely to cause problems. You may need to disable your player's automatic-power-off features, if possible, though.

Just turn the player on when needed. There is no sense on wearing out the player.

Aside from the other comments....I find it hard to believe that you would think
that any DVD manufacturer would consider that as a selling feature....OR even
consider listing it in the product specs if it does happen to do the same as you are asking.
It's a one-in-a-million shot that someone would need or even inquire about such a feature.

Just get a dvd player that resumes from the point where you turn it off, lots of them do that anyways.
