| Just in case I'm not the last person on this forum to hear about this . . . .
Hemlok, could you share your source on this information about the free version of DVDFab HD Decrypter not fully supporting all protections anymore? _______________ [From another thread] HemLok Member Joined: 20 Apr 2007 New post Posted: Oct 30, 2009 16:10 . . . . Users of DVDFab HD Decrypter (freeware) will likely be left out in the cold, however, since the authors have decided to not fully support all protections for all movies in the free version anymore be it standard DVDs or Blu-ray. Transformers 2 isn't supported by the free version, either. Looks like people will need to use shareware for backing this one up ["Up"]. | ||

For the latest version, 6.1.2.5, the free DVDFab HD Decrypter cannot handle Transformers 2. The free DVDFab HD Decrypter can only handle Blu-ray discs up to MKBv10. Current Blu-ray discs go up to MKBv16. If you pay for the full version you, of course, can then make a backup of Transformers 2 and handle newer Blu-ray discs although I still consider Blu-ray support in DVDFab to be laughable for the cost they are charging and yet they still can't properly handle BD+ discs let alone all non-BD+ releases. In short, the free version will lag 30 to 60 days behind the shareware version with regard to handling protections. Considering the current situation with new protections coming out fairly regularly this pretty much kills the use of the free version, in my book. The part of this that I find the worst is the complete lack of forewarning. I've come to expect this type of stuff from DVDFab so I'm not overly surprised but I do feel bad for the people who may feel extorted. For those people making backups to protect their original discs from their kids destroying them they are stuck between a rock and a hard place. Do you trust the kids with the original disc for 30 to 60 days before DVDFab adds support in the free version? I foresee a lot of people answering that question with a "No!" |
