| How to convert DVD to a portable format including burntin / burned / permanent subtitles. DVDFab is one of the best rippers and if you buy the full version you get a very good DVD to portable converter also.
Tools required DVD Fab Platinum ($50 but free trial available ) Guide Select the source, either directly from your dvd drive or open a iso, img, nrg iso image. Select DVD to iPOD or PSP or cell phone Select the audio track and subtitle track you want to keep Click on the Advanced Title Settings if you want to select custom chapters Hit Next
You can now start encode or configure output file size, video frame size and other stuff Click Configure to adjust the output file size under the Bitrate tab. You can also adjust profiles at the top right drop down list, I use ipod.h264 for ipod video for better video quality.
Converting Waaaait
Test play the video file in a software player, I use Media Player Classic together with ffdshow and haali media splitter. Or use VideoLan Media Player.
Add the mp4 to your portable device. Done |

| How does DVDFabPlat decide which image to use as the thumbnail (which shows up in iTunes) ? Any way to tell DVDFP which frame it should use as the thumbnail image ? Thanks. |

| That is all up to iTunes. It chooses which frame looks most like at title screen if I remember correctly. |

| I just bought a Creative ZEN 2.5" Black 16GB MP3 / MP4 Player, so hopefully this process will work for converting DVD to put onto the player (even though on NewEgg the specs say 'Video Playback Formats: MJPEG/WMV') ??
I have used DVDFab Decrypter and HD Decrypter (free versions) for years to rip full DVDs to my Hard Drive (and also know how to use DVDShrink to get fullsize 7+GB ripped disks to 4.2GB in a folder with VOB files). Now I am looking to take the same DVD and rip/encode it so it plays on the ZEN. Am I on the right track? If so I will purchase the Platinum version. As a side note - I also heard that DVDFabHD won't read Blu-Ray disks (using a BR drive), but AnyDVD works fine. I would prefer to stick with FAB since it has always done a great job. My first priority is the conversion to a playable format for the ZEN, Blue-Ray is secondary for the moment. Oh, I also have a Blackberry Curve 8310 phone and got a 8GB micro-SD mem. card....hopefully this process can also make video files playable on that phone? Any help is appreciated, thanks! |

| I am having trouble with a couple of files as the audio doesn't match the video on the new movie I bought and trying to convert to iPOD format. any ideas why audio and video won't match up? |

| Can someone explain how one goes about picking the "correct" Frame resolution in DVDFab Platinum based on the ripped DVD content? I too have a 160GB iPod classic and would like all my rips to show the whole frame (letterboxed, of course) on the iPod. I believe the screen rez of the actual LCD is 320x240 (4:3). Since I have DVDs that were shot in 1.78:1, 2.35:1 and other AR's, I'd like to know which Frame Rez to pick for each of those. Again, I ONLY want to play these on the tiny iPod screen.
Thanks for any help and sorry about the newb question. My search on the site yielded lots of questions, but not much in the way of answers. Regards, Jeff |
