| My PC DVD burner has been unable to format rewritable DVD RW unless it is a brand new one. When it formats the DVD RW disc that was written before, it will freeze in the formatting stage while copy a DVD. I think it is the burner problem because the other PC with the different burner and the same software has no problem to write the same DVD RW. Is it due to the burner dirty or what else? What kind of burner problems look like? Does anyone have experience in it? | ||||

| You did not say what software you are using to format the disc. | ||||

Nero. I have already said software has no problem. Why do you still want to know the software? I have tested it with the same software but different burner. It is the burner problem. Does anyone know formatting DVD RW freezing problem due to the burner?

| Have you been able in the past to format RWs of the same brand with the burner ?
Have you applied the latest firmware update ? What is the brand and model number of the burner. What is the brand and media type; -RW or +RW ? Only a guess, but it is possible that you are encountering a compatibility problem between that particular burner and the media you are trying to format.

| Nero software does not work and play well with all burners. That is why I asked about the software. Try Imgburn. | ||||

Friends don't let friends use Nero.....especially for something as simple as formatting an RW disc. Just use ImgBurn. Sure I've had a few RW discs that refuse to be re-formatted... but they were always the same CRAP Philips brand RWs. Once I tried a few times with ImgBurn ....with failures....the discs went in the garbage. ImgBurn burns. That's what it does. That is all it does. It is the best at it and it is small and FREE. If ImgBurn can't format that disc....pitch the disc. |
