DVD Audio to ???

Hello All,

I have a combo DVD-Audio/SACD player and wanted to backup the disks I have and convert them to a more universally accepted format for a few reasons:

1) The player will eventually fail.
2) The analog input on my surround receiver for the subwoofer does not work. I have to go straight fom the analog out of my DVD/DVD-A/SACD player to the sub, so I lose all control over the volume/etc. with the receiver remote. If I had it in a format my receiver could decode then I could use the optical input from my dvd player.

I found a program called DVD Audio explorer which extracts the audio to 2 .wav files. One contains the Lf,Rf,Ls,Rs channels and the other contains the LFE & C channel. The files have preserved their 24-bit, 96khz rate/sampling.

So now my question is...how can I take these audio files and create perhaps 5.1 dts files or something else that will allow me to keep the 5.1 tracks with as little quality loss as possible?

I'm also curious about having 4 different channels in a single .wav file? I opened the file in Audition just to see what it would look like and it shows 4 different files all in the same .wav container (one for each channel), but no matter what I play it seems to play back all 4 of them..like it doesn't know what to do with them. I'm hoping a 5.1 encoding program will be able to read these .wav files and understand what to do..I'm not sure why the DVD Audio Explorer didn't make 6 mono .wav files.

Anyways..I welcome any suggestions!

hmm..well doing some more looking apparently there are 2 additional options when extracting the files. "Merge" and "Run flac". This might do everything I need! I'll try it tonight! I like the idea of having my dvd-audio in a more universal format. I have 2 SACD's that I just might have to record in 24/96 and convert to 5.1 FLAC again.
