dv50? dx50 is divx 5.0.

edDV posted 2007 May 17 13:05
DV50 is the double data rate 4:2:2 version of DV with 3:1 compression performance similar to Digital Betacam. It is a production format.
http://www.dvcentral.org/AreaDV50.html

Since your file is being reported as 720x480 (853x480), it appears to be 16:9 wide native.

Most prosumer editors have ability to import DV50.

Ah, thanks for setting me straight on that. What's the "50" stand for? ~Mb/s?

edDV posted 2007 May 17 17:34
Yes, double DV rate or 50Mb/s.

DVCProHD is quad rate or 100Mb/s.

Digital Betacam 720x480i is less efficient at 90Mb/s.

Hmm, I had a look and even Premiere Pro needs third party support.

Normally DV50 comes in as SDI uncompressed rather than as a file.

If you are using Premiere Pro, go look at their third party tools section.

Mainconcept will be happy to sell you a standalone Directshow/VFW DV50 codec for $399

They have a demo that leaves a watermark.

Matrox has a free dvcpro 50 codec at http://www.matrox.com/video/support/ds/software/codec/home.cfm
you have to register or try this direct link ftp://redirect:r45j99t3@video.matrox.com/private/release71/codecs.exe

Hope that helps.

You can also get the very good RAYLIGHT DV50 decoder (sorry, no encoder) for $95US.

Unfortunately, it's Panasonic that has VERY tight control over the codec, and they won't even let Apple license it for QT windows, yet.
