Do you plan on shopping on Black Friday?

yoda313 posted 2008 Nov 19 13:05
THIS IS A POLL IDEA FROM FREEBIRD73717. THANKS FREEBIRD!

Do you plan on shopping on Black Friday?

Yes. I'm going to camp out in front of my favorite store in to get in first!
Yes. I love shopping and think of Black Friday as the Ultimate Sport!
No. I hate shopping and already. No way I'll fight those lines.
No. I do all my shopping online. No crazy people to deal with!
Huh? Whats Black Friday?

------------------

I am undecided. I don't really need any hardware this year (correction - there isn't anything I'm DYING to buy this year :D). I'd rather pay a little higher prices for gifts and go when the crowds aren't insane.

How about you?

freebird73717 posted 2008 Nov 19 13:23
Well I just had to vote on this poll... :-)
Thanks yoda!

No. I hate shopping already. No way I'll fight those crazy lines.

I did hit wal-mart a few years ago on black friday. Crowds were insane, people were fighting over products (one guy threw coffee on another while arguing over who got the last bargin laptop). I decided then no more for me. I'll either buy before or after black friday but not during. If there is something that I just absolutely can't live without I'll just send some cash with a friend or relative. There is always someone in my circle of people that will go shopping on Black Friday. I'll let them buy my stuff for me!!!

What little shopping I do, it's so much easier to do online. Not only the crazy people, but I'm easily bored and can't stand in line for more than a couple of minutes. :)

Don't you have games on your cellphone? That's what I do when I'm in a long line. Or read cnn or abcnews while I'm waiting :)

I hardly ever have my cell phone on, but I'm sure it does have games on it. Probably something simple, and boring :)

My bride and I have finally decided to take the plunge and buy an HD set - going plasma, I think. Now, whether I'll stand in those insane lines or wait until a few days later, I haven't decided yet.

So - final answer - maybe.

Other.

I am working Black Friday.

All bleeding day.

Starting at 4 or 5 in the morning I suspect.

Till 9 or 11 at night.

I work at Fry's. I can't shop. The lines will be to long for me to shop during a break.

I hate Black Friday.

Its evil.

I hate it so much I was tempted to use Emoticons. But they are more heinous than Black Friday.

The police made us cut down on the chaos. We let people in more carefully. A couple of years ago it was like watching salmon swimming upstream when the doors opened. The first few hundred fish still run to the back of the store.

Six of one, half a dozen of another.

Fry's needs this on Black Friday.

I'm staying home this year because last year I picked up a nasty case of the flu or bronchitis, even though I was only out for a short while. The Black Friday traffic, the craziness in the mall parking lots, and the long lines at the checkouts are bad enough, but I don't want take a chance on being too sick to enjoy the holidays again this year.

I have to agree, the overly-extended hours during the holiday season are evil, and employees are often required to work the extra hours for no other reason than a competeing store is open. IMHO, the additional sales they get often don't justify the cost of it.

I'm too aggressive to risk going out on Black Friday. I'd be the kind of jerk who'd tackle some old lady who stood between me and what I wanted to buy, only to suffer crushing guilt three days later.

(ah... but for those first two days I'd sleep peacefully victorious!!!!)

I went shopping on Black Friday 4 years ago, and snagged up some good deals. 3 years ago, I went, but everything was sold out. 2 years ago, and last year, it just wasn't worth my time.

This year, same as last year. Just isn't worth it. Most of the junk that seems like a deal, is just that junk. Otherwise, you end up only saving a few dollars here and there on a couple of items. A few dollars isn't worth my time nor the hassle.

Although Meijers does have a decent deal on some DVD Movies ($1.99-$5.99). Other than that -if the black Friday ads out so far are correct- no one has anything worth buying at a decent price.

I was number 23 in line ... it was crazy when the doors opened ... one guy said he was going to trip over people on purpose ... he was number 22.

He didn't run fast enough for me ... I caught the back of his shoe and he trip and fell down and I kept on running ... I walked out with what I wanted ...

If I don't get chosen then I'll be at some store early in morning for a blu-ray player or something. I haven't decided just yet what I'd like to buy. I bought my Sony 40 inch LCD TV from Sears at last year's Black Friday. It was like a stampede when the doors opened up. :x

One year I thought I shop online and avoid going to stores early... I waisted 2 hours clicking on the page in Amazon.com Black Friday deal and at 11AM said I was not among the first 1000 lucky ones!!! The year after that I went to Frys at 5AM it was hard to find a parking spot so I parked 2 blocks down the road but at Least I got couple of good deals. Even there they give numbers and if you don't get in line quick enough you loose the deal. On that day all the college campus was there getting the numbers and swapping with each other. They put 5 of something at half price and has time factor too like between 6AM to 8AM so you have to pick what you want and which store has it then you loose opportunity for the rest. Its more like a game of greed than shopping.

I leaned a lesson the hard way last Black Friday at Staples. They post the best Black Friday deals online midnight eastern time but block online orders until 6AM EST store opening time which is 3AM PST. I decided to go to the store at 5:15AM only to find they let people in early and the laptop (qty 20) I wanted was already sold out. I went home to find the web site was sold out as well.

I should have ordered online at 3AM and gone back to sleep.

Nope not yet. There are some things at Meijer - a regional chain similar to kmart and target etc...

I'm going for a 50.00 7" portable dvd player and a 50.00 7mp digital still camera. Both are no namers but these are the cheapest store deals I've found. There are name brand portable dvd players that are cheaper elsewhere. But the stores don't have both a cheap dvd player and a still camera together. I'm suprised that the cheapest name brand still camera I've seen in the ads so far is at 70.00 or 80.00.

I'm also debating about picking up a no name digital picture frame.

The deals start at 5am but the store is one of those that is open 24 hours. I'm not sure when I'll go. They say they have at least 30 of each pre store. I'm hedging to go at 3:30am and I might wait inside. I don't know how they are going to do it for waiting people with the store already open. I've never done a black friday at a store that was already open.

This should be interesting

Edit -also whats the crack about canada? I'm in Michigan..... Hmm....

EDIT 2 - by the way Canada does do a Thanksgiving celebration but theres is in October.

 I didn't get chosen either but a friend in Maryland did. She contacted me and told she'd buy it for me and all I'd have to do is pay them back. I decided not to get it since if there's any defects on the PS3 it would be a hassle to return. My luck with electronic stuff has been shitty this month. It took me a month to complete a custom pc that I did for a friend. :pissed: I had to return the aftermarket cpu cooler 2x's, a intel e8500 cpu 1x and 3 motherboards 3x's. I consider that shitty luck!

Well I did get my camera and portable dvd player after all.

Unfortunately the store wasn't organized for lines. I had to go seperate departments to get what I wanted. It would have helped if they had passed out maps that the staff had.

Anyway I did get the 7inch dvd portable dvd player and the 7mp camera. Both are the GFM no name brand.

I figure if the people I'm buying them don't care for the brand they can return them and upgrade to kodak or samsung or something.

All I got on Black Friday was a new digital cable box. Smoke alarm went off at 2a.m. in my computer room. I found out the digital cable box was hot. So I powered it off then went back to bed and woke up at 4a.m. to find the damn digital box was still very hot. I pulled the power cord to cut the electricity. Got down to Sears at 4:30 a.m. only to find that the lines were long in front of the electronics dept. doors. I told myself forget it and went back home.

Got back down to Sears at 9:15 a.m. to stand in line for the Oceanic Cable Time Warner counter. They have a little kiosk in Sears. After getting my new digital box I walked over to the electronics dept. to see if they still had the 42 inch Panasonic 720p Plasma available. I wasn't :o to hear that they still had it available but it had to be picked up at their distribution warehouse which was what they had customers do last year.

I'll end up getting a Panasonic BD35 blu-ray player from Amazon.com. Just waiting for the price to drop a lil more.

SingSing posted 2008 Nov 29 16:34
I got most of my stuff from Sears on Black Friday : A table saw, a K-cup brewer, clothings, MP3/video player, a RADAR detector, and flash drive/disks.

Sears and Home Depot have most of the sales items right up front, I hardly have to find anythings. If the items are available, I just grab and line up to pay.

In Tokyo, the  male commuters squeeze the ladies, and now there are subway cars for women only during rush hours.
Soon, we will have lady only line at retail stores during Black Friday. I bet the stores will put lady specific items at those lines.
