convertxtodvd suddenly runs very slow

I've been using convertxtodvd for a year now and it worked really good and FAST.However,since 2 days ago,the encoding takes too long.This is something unusual as it has been encoding videos really fast.I tried converting other videos just to see if it was the raw video that caused the problem but NO.Convertxtodvd is the one running very slow.Can it be slow because of my computer's memory??Some ppl say that your memory can affect certain programs to run very slow.I think my memory is about 246 MB. Is there any way to make this software fast again??

2048 MB you mean probably. why don;t you ask VSO for technical support? open the task manager and keep track of memory usage if you suspect it. tripp

I would at least upgrade it to 512MB, but 1GB would be better. You wouldn't likely see much more improvement going to 2GB with XP. Encoding doesn't really use much RAM, but 248MB is too low and your programs may have to access your hard drive a lot more to make up for a lack of memory. If your hard drive is fragmented, and you have low amounts of RAM, that may slow down some programs. But I suspect your problems with ConvertX are caused by something else. Maybe some program that's running in the background. Some anti-malware programs can do that. You can check how much RAM is being used, along with how much CPU power is being used with Task Manager. And if you watch your hard drive indicator light and it's constantly lit or flashing all the time, your computer may be accessing the hard drive more than it really needs to. :(

Can you tell where I can find that Task Manager?

Right-click on the task bar and select task Manage from the popup menu, or ctrl+alt+del and click on the Task Manager button

When you have convertxtodvd actually encoding, open the task manager and click on the Processes tab. Click on the heading for the CPU column to sort it by CPU usage. ConvertXtoDVD should be at the top of the list, and should be using most of your CPU. If it isn't then you have something going on that needs checking out. Click on the Performance tab to see memory usage. Physical Memory and Commit Charge are the two of most interest. If the total commit charge is higher than the total physical memory then you are using the page file extensively, which will also increase the amount of HDD access required (the page file is an area of HDD set aside to act as memory for when you run out). Using the page file is dramatically slow down any functions that require disc access.

Thanks for the info.So I already did like what you said.My CPU usage constantly changes from 95 to 98 percent and I also checked my memory usage.And yeah,my commit charge is higher than my physical memory.Is that the cause for Convertxtodvd to be running so slow suddenly??But this has never happened before :o Like I said,it used to be super fast!

If you are using the page file (which you are - heavily) then you are reading and writing to access the virtual memory, as well as reading and writing the file you are encoding. This will slow you down a lot. There are a couple of reasons things may have become slow recently. 1. Have you upgraded, added or changed any software that runs resident, such as anti-virus or anti-spyware software ? Have you added VOIP or messenger services ? All of these run resident and use memory. Shutdown everything you can in the tray before running ConvertXtoDVD. 2. Have you upgraded ConvertXtoDVD recently ? I believe that version 3 requires more memory than version 2. 3. When was the last time you defragged your HDD ? A badly fragmented page file will slow your system to a crawl. Try using jkdefrag, and running it at boot up so you can defrag before the page file is built. 4. Finally, check your event logs (right-click My Computer and select Manage) and look for Disk errors. These indicate the you have problems with your HDD, and these errors will also often result in very slow access and overall performance issues.

In my case,it's not reason no. 1 and not reason no. 2 either.I already checked my event logs and there are no errors regarding convertxtodvd at all.I am not sure about reason no. 3 though.I don't know what defrag means.Do you mean that I have to go to the control panel and click on "performance and maintanence" and then click on "rearrange items on your hard disk to make programs run faster"???

That is the built in defrag tool, however it is not a very good one. It will do some basic housekeeping, but that is all. If you want your drive properly defragmented, use something better. jkdefrag is small and free and very good at what is does. Thanks for recommending me that software.I already run ccleaner and that defrag tool but I haven't tried running convertx yet so I don't know if it is now fast or not.However,in the defrag summary,it says that the speed has increased 8% and there 17620 junk files in my PC.How do I remove these junk files???Is there and freeware that you can suggest?
