| I am in the process of converting a series of short video clips the wmv files to be used as part of a "slide show" for a party. The video clips come from DVDs that I made by recording from my Sony mini dv (standard definition) directly onto DVDs using a panasonic dvdrecorder. I have been using Nero 6 to capture small clips which I now need to convert directly to WMV files for the compilation. The files I capture off the DVDs are saved as Nero video files.
Is there any good (preferably free and simple to use) software for making the conversion directly to high quality WMV files? Thanks CBA |

| What is a NERO video files? what is the file extension? Can't you export to like avi in nerovision?
If you want HIGH quality wmvs video I would instead capture/record the mini dv using a firewire connection and using for example windows movie maker. |

| Ok here are the details
I am working from DVD which I originally created from home video - some were 8mm and some mini DV. I do not have access to all the original tapes - no good player for the 8's I have been using Nero to grap the 5-10 second clips The files are called "nero show time files" with names like VTS_01_1 I need to save these as WMV files -anyway that will work I will try - if there is a way to do it directly in Nero I have been unable to find. That doesnt mean it doesn't exist as I am a beginner. I would also consider a different workflow ie: is there a program that will lift the clips and create WMVs directly from the DVDs? All help is greatly appreciated. Thanks CBA |

| "Nero show time files" just says that nero show time will play them. Enable Show file extension view in windows explorer and you will see the extension for files, http://www.fileinfo.net/help/windows-show-extensions.html . But VTS_01_1 sounds like vob files. You can convert those to wmv using super or convert to avi with winff and then to wmv using windows movie maker.
Or use Tmpgenc xpress, it can open dvds and export as wmv directly. |
