Converting DVD to AVI...but to DivX, MPEG4, YUV or XVid??

lnong posted 2009 Oct 11 06:36
I have a DVD (in VIDEO_TS folder) and I want to convert a 15-min clip of it to AVI so that I could do some editing in Adobe Premier Pro and VirtualDub. After editing, I will be converting that clip back to its own DVD files.

For my purpose, which AVI format (DivX, MPEG4, YUV or XVid) should I choose when ripping the original DVD files so that I'll have the LEAST loss in video quality? I don't care about the output file size, the conversion time, or the audio quality (since I'll be using another set of audio files during the edit).

And which is the best codec and software tool to use for DVD to AVI conversion based on the above?

Choose a lossless codec like huffyuv or lagarith.

Or you can also open vob/mpeg2s directly in virtualdub with the mpeg2 plugin, http://home.comcast.net/~fcchandler/index.html
