Connecting HDD to PC - Transfer Movies

ZiGGY909 posted 2009 Feb 28 17:16
Hi, have recently acquired a LG RH177. The drive has died.

Anyways, I was wondering on whether you could remove the HDD from the recorder and plug it into the PC (To transfer xvids/dvds from pc to hdd)

I have looked at the HDD, and its just a standard 80gb ATA/IDE.

So whats stopping me from doing this?

You could try it to see if any files are recognized, but most recorders use a file format that is not compatible with a PC. If it is not recognized, do not allow the PC to format it because everything will be lost. There may be a third party program that can access the files through the PC.

If you do not care about what is on the drive, then let the PC format it so you can use it as an extra drive. Do not forget to set the jumper to the proper position.

Yes - Might be worth a try.

So if I remove the HDD and format it on my PC, will I still be able to use it in the Recorder? Ie, are there any special files/directories for the HDD to work with the recorder?? Or does it just work off a blank (formatted) HDD?

(PS, when I mentioned drive above, I meant the CD-Reader has gone, hence why I want to transfer movies to the HDD from pc, and then re-fit the HDD back into the recorder and watch away !!)

Cheers

Once you format it in the PC, you probably will not be able to reuse it in the recorder - any proprietary formatting and files that the recorder needs will be GONE.
