| Hi,
I've been looking at the many different DVD to XviD/DivX solutions and absent in all of them has been a convenient, automatic way to rip DVDs and convert them to XviD or DivX files in the background. This seems like it would be an almost "Must-Have" for people running HTPCs and the such who would hate to break their front-end experience by having to open a bunch of tools. So my question is what are the challenges that need to be overcome to create such a tool? Currently I am testing out using DVDFab to rip and then AutoGK to convert to XviD. Both the creators of these programs have done a fabulus job in creating simple easy-to-use interfaces but unfortunately AutoGK lacks a CLI (which from what I've read is the developer's decision and I can respect that) and DVDFab's is subpar from what I've read. What I'd like to do is create a web-based DVD ripping solution. I would like to create a PHP-based application with a workflow like this: 1. Pop DVD into DVD-ROM drive 2a. A deamon detects this and runs a PHP command that starts the decryption process (full DVD?) ----OR----- 2b. The user navigates to a webpage on the server and clicks a button that starts the decryption process. 3. After the decryption process finishes a new "Job" is created. The user then returns to the page and can set encoding and output options and can click a "Query" button to send the Job to production. 4. The DVD rip is encoded into DivX and moved to the appropriate location 5. The user deletes the job from the application. 6. Happiness as the DVD appears in a HTPC Movies list somewhere in the house. So... whats the challenge with this? Here are the tools I'm looking at: DVDFab - I need to experiment with the CLI but it seems to be the best at what it does... HandBrake - Also has a CLI component... not sure if it can do DivX but it does some sort of Mpeg4 Also if someone can propose a complete command-line based DVD ripping process that would be greatly appreciated. I don't understand a lot of it as well as I should right now but I'm learning. |

| I would checkout automkv as it does everything from dvdfab decrypting to avi xvid. |
