Not exactly. The Blu-ray would have to be small enough to fit on the BD RW disc, about 25GB for a single layer. That is sometimes the case if you only use the main movie and not much else. If not, you would have to re-encode it, which can take quite a while. Two common tools used are RipBot and BD Rebuilder.

Of course, before you can do any of this, you will have to decrypt the disc. That may add another $80US or so to the costs, depending on what program you use. I use AnyDVD HD.

I convert mine for easy playback on my computer with RipBot to MKV, about 8GB filesize. I don't have a stand alone BD player. It takes me about 6 hours to re-encode to MKV using a four core CPU running at 3.3Ghz.

how big is a movie that i buy on blu ray? and how big is a ps3 game? (sorry for the newb questions)

cant i buy BD the same size??

I have two ripped BDs on my HDD, one is 17GB and the other is 34GB. The ~30GB size is more common. Even with that one the main movie is 27GB, so it wouldn't fit on a single layer BD. You can get double layer BDs but they cost quite a bit more. You just need to get used to processing them to a smaller size. :) BD Rebuilder is fairly fast. At least faster than converting them to MKV with RipBot. :(

I don't know about PS3 games.

EDIT: Single layer BDs are ~$6US each. Dual layer (50GB) is ~$20US.

I'm looking forward to this feature. No word yet on how soon "soon" is.
